Reason for Ruin are a unique blend of high energy, innovative rock. Comprised of Zac Lake on vocals, Jules Nickel on guitar, Sam MacDonald on bass, and Chris Martin on drums, Reason for Ruin's music encompasses a wide array of influences, producing a seductive sound. The first three songs the band recorded won first place in the Sony Music Battle of the Bands, Demolisten Derby. The band recorded a new four song demo in 2000, which got them invited to play at the 2001 New Music West conference in Vancouver, BC. In addition to most of the venues in the Seattle area Reason for Ruin has performed at many all-ages outdoor events, including the North West Sessions wakeboard tournament, Skatefest in Sandy, OR, the 2003 Volcanic Rock Festival in Bend, OR, and the Seattle Music Festival at Alki Beach two years in a row. On April 1st, 2004 the band released their debut album, "Under Smoke", with a CD release show at the Premier in Seattle.

Reason for Ruin are a unique blend of high energy, innovative rock. Comprised of Zac Lake on vocals, Jules Nickel on guitar, Sam MacDonald on bass, and Chris Martin on drums, Reason for Ruin's music encompasses a wide range of influences, producing a seductive sound. Sam and Chris began playing together in a simple recording session at a friends house, and continued jamming together for a short while before running into old friend Zac Lake, who was inspired to put vocals to the material. They went into the studio to record their first three songs, which subsequently won first place in the Sony Music Battle of the Bands, Demolisten Derby. The band recorded a new four song demo in 2000. Off the strength of that demo, Reason for Ruin was invited to play at the 2001 New Music West conference in Vancouver, BC. Though they've received positive feedback from the two demos, Reason for Ruin really thrives in the live show.
