Any candidate for success has to nourish its history with a pinch of mythology. There was no way PILLS could forgo this holy rule. Flash-back to 1991 : PILLS makes its entrance into the yard of international greats during the massive race ending the Transmusicales in Rennes, alongside 808 State, Underground Résistance and Orbital. A historic rave, being the first one ever organised at the Transmusicales. Here's for the golden legend. For the rest of it, PILLS' brought together their immoderate passion for keyboards.
Soon the tandem was found launching their first 100% French techno label : Rave Age Records.
First founding act : a 12” “air” which coincided with the first massive raves in France (celebrations, Asnieres Rave,...). PILLS also participated in compilations such as “Tekno Nostrum” and “Ravelation”.
PILLS signes on with Shaman, a Mercury label and releases in '95 its firt album “Foundation”; the latter really settles the basis of PILLS' originality, in a conception of electronic music moving away from the broad path set by the London, Chicago and Detroit scenes! The little odds of PILLS, its easiness to synthesise electronic pop and acidulous house into something incredibly new.
Two years later, in '97, the electronic French scene finally gets a name in England and reaches the rest of the world in a flash. During this time Anton is left alone finalising his second album “electrocaïne”, 10 tracks which bring together extremes of ice and fire, pain and coldness, lights and shadows.
With “electrocaïne” released by Mercury, PILLS manages an incredible new masterpiece. Anton wrestles with the techno rules so as to go back to the roots of the music, during the founding times when the Detroit pioneers got their inspiration from rap music. A European raving tour follows, and with only four musicians, PILLS literally rips apart the raves' dancefloors 'I love techno, mtv dance & techno, Brussels, oslo, copenhaguen...) as well as the festival ones' (les eurockéennes, istambul, pukkelpop, paléo, dour...)
Spring '99, the story goes on : PILLS third opus will be released in juanary 2000. this last record is entirely produced by Anton himself, mixed by Ali Staton, famous for his work with Tricky, PJ Harvey. Recorded with the Protools numeric software (a first in France) and masterised by Ian Cooper at Metropolis studio in London.
PILLS third opus is rich in prestigious guests from out of the “techno ghetto” which brings forward once more the PILLS' hybrid universeŠ On “I preach to party” Anton has invited Mud Bone Cooper, former band member of Parliament, Funkadelic and P-Funk. Another prominent guest, Lee Scratch Perry, the inventor of the reggae “sound” alongside the departed Bob Marley. Lee Scratch Perry brings magic to the track “music soldia”. To tie up this guest list, Anton has also invited Rachid taha and Hamish clark on “insane moves”.
