Bio
Who is Nelson Starr ?
One of the best-known and critically acclaimed musician/composers in the Buffalo area, Nelson Starr brings a totally refined yet thoroughly modern sensibility to his craft. A multi-talented artist, Nelson has the ability to play just about any genre of music from rock to jazz, country to R&B. Hailing from three generations of professional musicians (all named Nelson!), Nelson Starr stood out early among his peers for his skill as both an instrumentalist (he plays guitar, bass, and keyboards) and singer/songwriter. Forming The Tails in 1987, the band went on to become, arguably, the most critically praised and popularly admired band of the 90's Buffalo original music scene.
Recently, Nelson has been hard at work composing and producing music for himself and other, varied, eclectic and always cutting-edge artists. From Hip Hop/R&B duo, Perpendicular (Nelson is an actual member), whose music has appeared on "Party of Five" to the writing and performing the soundtrack to the independent film noir, "The Falls", Nelson's compositional chops and creative breadth put him in league with talents akin to Peter Gabriel, Sting, Radiohead and Brian Wilson.
More than just the latest artificial flavor - although his "sound" is immediate, highly stylized and fresh - Nelson Starr's latest solo EP, "Segue" is an amalgam of power pop, post-Radiohead euphonics, and Dylanesque American gothic that, yet, holds together and is compelling.
