Bio

Motion Picture emerged from New York in 2003, during the height of the city's rock rebirth. At first glance they had all the characteristics to fit a billowing music scene: guitar driven songs, pounding drums, and laconic vocals. But Michael Morgan’s schizophrenic-to-epic songwriting gave them a distinct voice, producing songs best described as a cross between Blur and Elvis Costello with the vigor and drive of the Pixies (only if they were recording the soundtrack to a contemporary remake of Top Gun directed by Paul Thomas Anderson).

It wasn't long before they released their debut album Anhedonia, a cracked collection of stomped-out guitar rock – a record that either left people sonically surprised or scratching their heads. David Madden from Splendidezine put it best: "There's a difference between liking art and respecting it...I really respect Anhedonia."

With a new record in their hands, they took to New York's club circuit, and a few months later found themselves on stage at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas as part of the New York International Music Festival industry showcase. Following the festival, the band landed a show at the prestigious Knitting Factory in LA (where Beck had played a couple months prior). Their performance that night was especially rocking.

Recently returning from a hiatus – drummer Mark Tergesen underwent major knee-surgery – the band has returned with the experience of supporting a record, while Morgan has sharpened his songwriting skills and cultivated a batch of almost 100 new tunes. Look out for them in the New York City club circuit.
