"Melissa Mulligan has the touch...she makes pop/rock magic." -Jon Sobel, NYC
Love This Life, Melissa Mulligan's first full-length, solo album, demonstrates her love affair with powerful melodies, thoughtful lyrics and lush harmonies. Compared to Aimee Mann, Paula Cole, and The Pretenders, this record depicts loss, joy, and a love of life.
For several years, Melissa has performed as a solo act and with bands in places such as Foxwoods Resort and Casino, Toad's Place, Cornelia Street Cafe in NYC, Cafe Nine, Acoustic Cafe, universities and Champlin's Marina in Block Island. Recently, Melissa showcased her material at the Trowbridge Symposium, a national songwriter's convention in Nashville, TN.
Melissa is returning to the studio this fall to record her next album... stay tuned! Enjoy.

Dark Horse (Lyrics)

Dark Horse

You’re the dark horse, baby, in my life
racing wildly through your mind.
Will you come home when you ride
regrets and demons inside?

CHORUS:
I will never love another
You and I have both discovered
How to keep this tight
I will never run for cover
Pray to God, pray for thunder
We’ll be here tonight.

You’re the blood that’s running through my veins -
a pulse that’s driving me insane.
When you’re hurting I bleed.
My love is the only thing you need.

CHORUS

You’re tequila, honey, in my glass.
I’ll take you slow to make it last.
While I drink you, you sip on me.
Let desire set you free.

CHORUS

Ride, ride on home to me.
Will you race will you run, will you come
right on home to me?

Borrowed Wings (Lyrics)

Borrowed Wings
copyright 2003, Melissa Mulligan

Camouflaged like a Wednesday
in the middle of a furious week.
It doesn’t matter what my friends say
I’m pushing wisdom now, I need to hear you speak.

Plan me another map for my flight
Don’t let me go riding all alone in the wind
Don’t you falter - don’t ever leave my side.

I’m raining fast like Seattle.
I see my gist is drenched in vain reality,
but this foundation wants to rattle, yeah,
and see my tears turn into joyous revelry.

Send me asunder; I will pray as I sing
When you let me come by will I fall right from the sky
Or can I borrow a pair of angel’s wings?

I have the curfew of an orphan,
ain’t nobody ever come to tuck me in at night.
But I get a natural endorphin, yeah,
getting ready for the next big flight.

This was written on 9/14/01. The three verses contemplate three places within us: frustration with feeling out of control, grief, and loneliness. The choruses beg for a deeper, joyous understanding of life.
