As lead singer for the roots rock band This Other Life, Meg Gehman brings her considerable singer-songwriter talent to the front for the band's multi-influenced sound. The result is smoky and tight. Above it all are Gehman's soaring vocals.

Gehman made her bones as a singing waitress on NYC's lower east side; staging cabaret shows in the same town; playing various roles in musical theatre; and, after moving upstate, fronting the Rochester, NY-based cover band, Meg and the Clams for 12 years.

In 2004 Gehman scrapped the covers, opting for what she always did best: playing her own songs. This Other Life was formed by careful selection of some of the best musicians the Rochester area had to offer.

Gehman's vocals are powerful, clear, and direct. Her influences are discernable when you pay attention. You can hear Bonnie, Rickie Lee, Melissa, Sheryl, Aretha. Gehman's lyrics are equally impressive. They're smart, deep, and intensely human. Take a listen.

Meg Gehman

As lead singer for the roots rock band This Other Life, Meg Gehman brings her considerable singer-songwriter talent to the front for the band's multi-influenced sound. The result is smoky and tight. They groove, they break it down, they have fun. And above it all are Gehman's soaring vocals.

Gehman made her bones as a singing waitress on NYC's lower east side; staging cabaret shows in that same town; playing various roles in musical theatre; and fronting the Rochester, NY based cover band, Meg and the Clams for 12 years.

In 2004 Gehman decided to scrap the covers, opting for what she always did best: playing her own compositions. This Other life was formed by careful selection of some of the best musicians the Rochester area had to offer. Gehman plays acoustic guitar and sings lead; her vocals are beautifully augmented by Becky Thomas ( also playing mandolin, percussion); on bass is Eastman graduate Erika Vazquez; on lead guitar is Fred Kentner, an enormously talented chameleon; drums are played by Jim Conner. Both Conner and Kentner toured with highly successful 80s band, Miche and the Anglos.

Gehman's vocals are powerful, clear, and direct. Her influences are discernable when you pay attention. You can hear Bonnie, Rickie Lee, Melissa, Sheryl, Aretha. But above all, you can hear Meg. You appreciate the vocal chops, but there's a lyrical sensibility there too. Gehman writes about truth and beauty, sometimes through lies and ugliness. Her foci tend to be either politics or love; human connection, or the lack of it.

She's an up and comer. So get up and come to a show. You won't be disappointed.
