She began her songwriter career in the early 90's and submitted her first 3 compositions into a national talent competition called, "The Marlboro Talent Roundup". She was selected to compete (out of 500 submissions) in the Regional competition along with her band, The Lauren Montgomery Band, at the famous New York venue, "The Bottom Line", where she came in 1st place. She then went on to win 3rd place in the National Competition in Nashville.

She was a featured vocalist onboard Carnival's MS Jubilee and MS Celebration, and enjoyed singing cabaret music in the Theater District of New York at venues such as "Don't Tell Mama" and "88".

Her original songs can be heard on her CD, "Moonbeam" a dedication album to her daughter, Meaghan.
