Actice Duty

I served in active duty for four years. After completing Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC, I attended the US Army School of Music for six months in Norfolk, VA. Upon graduation, I was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division Band, stationed in Bamberg, Germany. While with 1ID, I performed throughout Germany, France, Kosovo, and Iraq, performing for high ranking officers and dignitaries. In the 1 ID Band I had the priveledge of working under two older and experienced drummers, and was able to shadow under them during gigs, eventually taking their place. I gained valuable experience playing drumset within a Concert Band Orchestra, the 1ID Stage Band(Big Band), various Jazz Combos, playing for formal military engagements, and drumming with a Popular Music Band, playing for wedding receptions, commanding officers' BBQs, and other social gatherings. I also played at a Single Soldier's outreach ministry called "The Service" held weekly at the base movie theater. It was while in the 1ID Band when I found out about Berklee, seeing a Berklee Diploma in my First Sergeant's office. After spending a year and a half in Germany, the band got orders to deploy to Iraq with the Division, so from Feb of '04 to Feb of '05 I served in Iraq with the 1 ID Band. While in Iraq, I toured extensively with the 1ID Band's own Enter Sandman, playing a wide variety of music in support of our Commanding General's interest of troop morale. In Iraq, I also played at a Worship Service called the "R.O.C.K" service on Sunday nights. After redeploying to Germany, I soon became the only drummer in the 1 ID Band, and was responsible to play in every band and ensemble that needed a drummer, my favorite being the Big Band. The Big Band played Glenn Miller era swing charts for German Fests, always taking place in large fest tents filled with people eating and drinking, and LOVING big band music! I also went out to play at jam sessions held in jazz clubs in Bamberg, Nurenburg, and Erlangen. In Germany, I also had the priveledge of studying with Berklee almnus Joachim Leyh.

Massachusettes National Guard

Upon completion of my four year enlistment with the Army, I decided to reenlist to serve the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by joining the 215th Army Band out of Fall River, MA. The 215th is one of the most talented and professional bands in the entire Army. In the band, I play in the Percussion Battery for military ceremonies, various tattoos and marching shows, and parades. I play percussion and drum set in the "Concert Band" Orchestra. I also sing tenor 1 and 2 parts in the Voices of Freedom Men's Choir, singing at Band Concerts, and performing the National Anthem for professional sports teams around the Boston Area such the Patriots and the Celtics. The 215th Army Band provides an opportunity for me to grow professionally and musically, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Last year 215th's Alliance was formed. Alliance is a quartet that plays jazz, soul, and R&B music for formal events. Led with an EWI (electronic wind instrument), Alliance has a contemporary sound that communicates elegance and grace through well known hits by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Sade, Norah Jones, Corrin Bailey Rae, Billy Joel, Bill Withers and an array of jazz standards. Alliance has performed for various formal military engagements around Massachusetts and wherever the 215th Army Band is assigned for duty.

In both 2007 and 2008, I was was awarded the Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year in the 215th.

Ministry

I am member of a church plant in Boston called Heart Change Fellowship (www.heartchangefellowship.com). Also, for the past three semesters I have led a Men's Bible study at Berklee. I've learned a lot in this process, and am thankful for the opportunity to serve others by facilitating a group.

The past two summers I've had the opportunity to go to Poland and Costa Rica on mission trips involving music. I am very thankful to be able to use my musical gift to serve and glorify His name to the nations.

Sunday Mornings
over 30 days ago to Jordan Lenhoff

Hi Jordy, its Ruth from Alexandria. I saw this and I'm so proud of you. I put my name as Sunday Morning because I used to go to your dad's house for Bloody Mary's on Sundays and mess with your computers. It sounds like you have far exceeded any expectations that your father thought, as far as college goes. I think you were just enjoying life living with your dad. I listened to your music and OH MY you are sooo good. I am now married and living in Virginia Beach and my husband is a die hard Red Sox Fan. Oh and I'd love to hear you play. And you sing too, the National Anthem. If you ever come to Virginia Beach, you are always welcome here. Please let me know how you are. I've heard stories about what happened to your dad but don't know what is fact and what isn't. My email address is ruth_bright@me.com
