Joey Kingpin Biography

Joey Kingpin, AKA Steven Hoffer, began experimenting with guitars and beats at Friday night house parties up in the quiet east bay hills overlooking the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. “I used to pull out my drum machine and a two string Fender guitar and start doing live guitartronic mash-ups of Green Day songs. The crowds used to go crazy and I would end up playing till the early morning. From there, I got inspired to start writing original songs and recorded demos on my home eight track porta studio.”

Hype from those original demos eventually reached the ears of a producer at MTV in New York. Those early unmastered songs immediately started appearing on episodes of MTV shows like Road Rules and Undressed, and
MTV home video releases like Inside Total Request Live and Tom Green Uncensored. All of this licensing culminated with a high pro-file slot on the MTV Undressed Soundtrack. Soon after, Joey Kingpin went on to sign with
New York based label Radikal Records, who released his debut album, A Beat Down In Hell Town.

Aside from building up a very loyal cult following, highlights include Joey Kingpin music appearing in the Touchstone Pictures film Big Trouble and his song “Sweet Valley” used as the theme for the Mary-Kate and Ashley In
Action! animated cartoon series.

Joey Kingpin has now returned with a brand new full-length album titled "Stereo Thriller". Stereo Thriller is a definite progression from my debut record. No samples were used and every instrument is played live. I love
writing songs. This record is definitely more song-oriented.” Early critiques of Stereo Thriller have garnered comparisons to the likes of Moby, Beck, and Daft Punk.
