Jentri Colello didn’t grow up in a musical family. She didn’t start playing guitar before she could walk or write her first song at some ridiculously young age. In fact, she swears that if it hadn’t been for the timely intervention of her brother she’d still be listening to shitty pop music. There was probably a Debbie Gibson cassette still buried in her room when he introduced her to bands like Pearl Jam and The Pixies.

Still, she might never have picked up a guitar if it weren’t for her peers. As a teenager she spent her time with a group of guys who played music wherever they could. In the garage at Carls, the basement at Tonys, and when the neighbors got tired of the racket, after hours in a honey factory.

It was their influence that inspired her to find a used guitar when she was thirteen. She attended all of their shows and dreamed of being a part of their band. Years later her dream came true, albeit in reverse, when they started playing HER music. After their drummer moved away in pursuit of a graduate degree, she was left playing solo. A weekly gig at a local bar saw her becoming more comfortable playing out, and encouraged her to write more.

A year and a half later her band has reunited, their beloved drummer back in Madison, ready to put a masters degree to good use by playing in a four-piece Indie-rock band. Although, Jentri continues to play acoustic sets, accompanied by Josh Harty, a soon-to-be-recorded EP will feature the full-band lineup.
