Groove Duke, takes his audiences on a soulful roller coaster ride of funky, soulful, rhythm and blues-inspired original music and heart pounding retro classics full of big horns, thumping bass, wailing keyboards and pulsating drums - a bluesy, slightly raw, improvisational show version of a jam band. Separately, they are each very talented, highly-trained musicians. But together, they work like cogs forming a simple yet complex machine that produces great chords, hot melodies and infectious rhythms.

Groove Duke

From his first incarnation as a Retro-Soul cover act in 2002, Groove Duke has always placed his emphasis on high-energy showmanship; a soulful, singing, dancing, manic figure blazing onto the stage in a way that belies his 250-pound frame. Reorganizing in 2008, Groove Duke embraced change and grew, augmenting his cover set with original songs. The band's sound has been compared to Tower of Power, Steely Dan, Van Morrison, Otis Redding, and James Brown.

Groove Duke's first solo album "Heavy Mariner" was entirely fan funded and is scheduled for release in September 2010. The pre-released single, Stick Boy, was Internet radio show Talent Cast's song of the week, and was featured the June 2010 playlist at www.indiespotting.com. The instrumental title track was licensed to a major cable television network. Reviews of the entire album are still pending.
