Our music is a combination of RnB, funk with enough African percussion to make it sort of world. Thanks for checking us out.

The nickname Jim "Gaspipe" Thompson started out as a joke--- kind of like Louie "Lugwrench" Scarmuchi. But on second thought, we realized that gaspipe has a significant meaning in Nigeria, where a couple of our band members are from. We also realized that all the instruments I play are gaspipes, and, as a very organic friend of mine pointed out, we are all gaspipes. With that kind of resonance, who could resist?

The guys in the band are a gathering of some of my favorite players I've worked with over the years and I am proud to be associated with each and every one of them.

So pull up a chair, kick off your shoes and take a little trip into the musical world of the Gaspipe Band.

Jim (Gaspipe) Thompson

Jim was raised in a cane break by an old mama lion... ... ah, you're not gonna buy that. O.K. Here we go for real.
Jim "GasPipe" Thompson hails from the Great Northwest migrating to L.A. to work with likes of Bobby Womack, Taj Mahal, Los Lonely Boys, Ike Turner, Wynonna, Big Joe Turner, The Monkees, Buddy Miles, Cecilio and Kapono and many more.

Jim cut his teeth on the Seattle/Tacoma soul scene working 6 nights a week in nightclubs and actual chitlin's joints often until 6:00AM while going to school during the days as a clarinet major at the U of W. Eventually, he made the move to L.A. He has always enjoyed L.A., a challenging musical environment with some of the best players in the world setting the local standards.
While working a series of extended gigs in Japan, Jim became enamored with the Skakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and has made this difficult instrument part of his arsenal. Combined with his experiences in West African drumming, these influences give Jim's music a unique blend of musical perspectives
Jim is currently touring with Bobby Womack and working on an upcoming Gregg Allman C.D. as well as teaching and recording ..
With the GasPipe Band, Jim steps out of his role as an ace saxophone sideman and takes the front man spot on his new C.D. " Look Out He's Gonna Blow". Jim is very excited about this project because it gives him a chance to combine his various musical influences.
