DaCloak's Bio

Gregory DaCloak James Jr. has been listening, studying, and creating music since his beginning and forever. He was born on the west side of Chicago, but raised on the south side. Raised in a home of music lovers was the reason he would soon come to love music himself. The main genre of this particular area of his life was submerged in soul music. His love for hip hop comes from home as well listening to some of hip hop's founding artist such as Rakim, LL Cool J, Wu Tang, A Tribe Called Quest, N.W.A and etc.

Greg decided to go into music professionally in 2004. Battle rapping was his first introduction into Chicago's hip hop community. There were no video camera's to tape the events, so Greg decided to become an artist as well. Greg honed his lyricism by song writing and free styling over countless beats. In 2005 Greg decided to put together a mix tape series entitled Life Music under the monarch DaCloak. DaCloak decided to build a buzz by joining several websites such as dacloakchicity.blogspot.com, myspace.com/dacloakmusic, facebook.com/dacloakmusic, and etc.

DaCloak dropped his first single in 2007 entitled Chicago's Done It Again from part 1 of his mixtape series entitled Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives. Chicago's Done It Again recieved over 1000 play's on myspace. While working on the production of the mix tape DaCloak attended the Music Industry Workshop (M.I.W.) Westside Music Book Camp in 2008. DaCloak set his focus on music production to help with the recording process of his mix tape. He graduated June 2008 receiving an award for being the hardest working student out of his production class and was also given the opportunity to perform.

He slated Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives for release on sept.11, 2008 for free download. Though the buzz wasn't huge Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives still received over 5000 downloads and above. He's performed at several venues around the Chicago land area such as Bill Blues, The Subterranean, U.S. Beer Company, and etc while currently working on his 2nd project Life Music Vol.2 The Sleeping Giant Is Awake which is slated to drop 2010.
