The Story Behind The Player

“If God can use a donkey than He can use me” (Numbers 22) is one of my favorite sayings. It is true that we are all called to do at the very least “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” Mark 16:15. I try to encourage everyone when I preach that we are all ministers, but not all are called behind the pulpit. We can minister by being the “only Bible someone might read”, but that can only be done by showing the love that Jesus Christ showed.

I have been raised up in the ministry by my father and mother Don and Roberta Watson who have evangelized across the country. My father was known best by his very unique style of piano playing. Sort of a mix between southern gospel, black gospel, and a touch of ragtime. The most amazing thing about his gift was that he never had piano lessons. As a kid, a minister laid hands on my dad’s hands and prayed over him that he would have the gift. The Lord certainly answered that prayer. So by being surrounded by music it was only obvious that I would also get into the music too. I started out by playing the drums as a kid and then switched to guitar. I then learned how to play lead guitar. All of this while playing with my father and mother as they singed. Then as I matured in music I then really understood the gift to play the piano that my father had. One day I was watching my dad play the piano in the house and told him that I wished I had the same gift, and of course he wasted no time to tell me the story of how he was prayed over and he did the same for me. As with the other instruments, I then started practicing the piano and with the Lords help have been able to get better and better with time. I too have never had any lessons on piano and none of the other instruments that I play. If God can do that for me, He can and will help everyone with the gifts that He gives us. That is my message, little is much when God is in it!
