DETAILED BIOGRAPHY OF TWICE JOHN

Music Directors Gerard John and Philip John
(Previously known as "Phil & Jerry" now known as TWICE JOHN)

What is the secret success behind Music Directors TWICE JOHN, to consistently produce multi platinum CD?s with a global fusion sound?
Read on to find the full story.

The eldest Gerard John, initally known by the Indian press as ?Jerry? and his brother Philip John ?Phil? began their immersion in music through their parents. Their mother Susheela Magdalene (voice trained by a Brahman Master and in western singing styles) would give regular public performances with their father Dr. Francis Manikham John (trained in piano and orchestration); accompanied by an Indian orchestra of 10 - 15 additional members. Francis prepared the group?s orchestration and they collectively performed for charities, festivals, weddings, universities and colleges.

As a toddler, Gerard would sit in on the orchestra practices and by the age of four demonstrated a gift for rhythm by keeping perfect time, tapping along to each of the traditional and popular Indian songs, without missing a beat.

Throughout their teens the brothers would occasionally accompany their parents at charity performances, TV, film and radio appearances with Gerard on tablas, percussion and vocals and Philip on keys and guitar.

The duo's formal musical training throughout their youth in total spans over 20 years. Gerard?s training included western styles in piano, percussion, drums, electronic recording, orchestration and classical operatic voice. Along with this he studied Classical Karnatic and Hindustani, Raga and percussive training from Pandits (Masters) in Chennai and Mumbai to assist him with composition and orchestration of Indian music whilst developing an extraordinary vocal dexterity ranging from Classical operatic, to Taal Percussive, to Raga Micro-tones and a signature Jazz beg with a Pop edge.

Whilst Philip?s formal music studies included guitar, piano, orchestration, sound mixing, engineering and editing. Philip has a sensitive and soulful touch with piano/keys and a naturally romantic style with strings. His is gifted in orchestration and engineering, being able to name chordal arrangements simply by ear and create full orchestral sounds in compositions.

Growing up in Australia from the ages of 8 and 6 respectively, created tremendous opportunities for Gerard and Philip to be immersed and influenced by radio, television, theatre, clubs and western traditions of music. Meanwhile their parents performing popular Bollywood songs at home, held a constant and enduring presence in their close family life.

More than musicians and performers alone, Gerard and Philip are Music Directors. Their business training in accounting also enhances their production skills, giving balance to the creative side of their music making. As second generation Bollywood artists they have been creating waves in the Australian and Indian music industries in film, television, radio, advertising, engineering, remixing, composition and orchestration.

Consequently the TWICE JOHN sound is a true fusion of classical East and West with modern global instruments, languages, rhythms and technologies. Together they bring a lifetime of musical experience and performance with complimentary skills and gifts to create a unique and cutting edge sound.
