Lonely by the Sea

Story Behind The Song

The intensity and passion of first love is rarely ever felt in the same way again. This song was written in the absolute epicenter of that unique love and in the pain that comes from being separated from the source of it. I was in California and she in Illinois and I found myself on more than one melancholy night sitting lonely by the sea.

Song Description

This song was written and recorded still feeling the pain of being separated from someone I loved very much. The recording is rough and simply produced, but I think it still retains the raw, innocent quality of exposed nerves lacking the experience or the will to cover them with hardened callouses. Many layers of tough skin have covered that exposed heart now, but I can tell you that this is as honest and simple a song as I have ever written.

Lyrics

Lonely by the Sea

Well they say that California is the place to be
I don't know for sure but I tend to agree
but I just can't be myself when you're not here with me
so I spend my time a dreaming sitting lonely by the sea

Chorus
But the night is calling
and the wind is blowing strong
and the days are getting shorter
and the nights are getting long
the moon is glowing softly and the stars are shinning bright
the water softly shimmers and I miss you tonight.

I'm working on a job and I'm trying to make the grade
I'm playing all the games educated people play
I'm hoping that you're back home thinking of only me
As I spend my time a dreaming sitting lonely by the sea

Chorus
But the night is calling
and the wind is blowing strong
and the days are getting shorter
and the nights are getting long
the moon is glowing softly and the stars are shinning bright
the water softly shimmers and I miss you tonight.

If I had a light for every time I thought of you
They would fill the skys and turn the darkness into blue
But a the lights shining up there in the sky
In no way could compare to the smile that's in your eyes

Chorus
But the night is calling
and the wind is blowing strong
and the days are getting shorter
and the nights are getting long
the moon is glowing softly and the stars are shinning bright
the water softly shimmers and I miss you tonight.

So if you want to find me
You know just where I'll be
I'm just spending time a dreaming
Sitting lonely by the sea.

enjoyable tune.......

Pretty song, nice recording of guitars, I like the hard panning. Geat vibe and the vocalist has a beautiful delivery and originality. The strings were a nice touch. A sweet song with a bit of nostalgia charm, down home feeling with a lovely story. What a special song, a true gem!

great vocal, nice guitar work
