I Do

Story Behind The Song

There really was a young girl at the checkout at the grocery store who was pregnant and looked very troubled about her future. We went from there.

Lyrics

The preacher wearin ol blue jeans was next in line to pay the cashier was a sad-eyed girl with a baby on the way
with no ring on her finger, she wiped away a tear or two (He said) "Looks like you've got alot on your mind" She looked up and said "I do" (So he said)

Things don't always go like we think they should And sometimes it's a rough ride till the bad times turn to good but the very road you're on now feelin lost and all alone can be the very one that'll lead you home

A preacher gets a call sometimes for a graduation prayer And 3 months later she was surprised to see him there she made her way across the stage shook his hand and said, "I know you" (He said) "I bet you've got a beautiful baby" She smiled and said "I do"
He said "remember when I told you

(Chorus)

The seasons cycled round and round just her and her little boy until one day she met a man down from Southern Illinois

There's nothin' like a small town church filled with family and friends So much happiness when a life of love begins
she picked that same preacher cuz he knew what she'd been through and when he asked, "Who takes this man?" through happy tears she cried, "I do"
(Chorus)

It's the very one that'll lead you home.
