Story Behind The Song

Mark's twelves years as a band ended the night he wrote this.

Song Description

One By One By One: "This life, what a going away party!" As the years go by, one by one, friends and loved ones we "hold so dear in our hearts" move on to "different places and different stages." These fleeting moments we share with the people we care for are precious; "I raise my cup and thank God for the luck that these were my witnesses." The chorus pleads; "Don't tell me these days are over. Don't tell me that this can never last. We had some good times and we had some bad, but I'm not ready to call today the past."

Song Length 4:24 Genre Rock - Indie/Low-Fi

Lyrics

One By One By One

From three blocks down. You could here the sound of
peace love and decadence.
I looked across the room. It hit me like a sonic boom
that this was nothing but a going away party.

Pre-Chorus:
Because one by on by one all these faces
that I hold so dear in my heart are moving on,
on, on, to different places, different stages,
I should have known from the start.

Chorus:
So please don't tell me these days are over.
Don't tell me that this could never last.
We had some good times, we had some bad,
But I'm not ready to call today the past.

So I raise my cup. Thank God for the luck
that these were my witnesses.
Because it's just a dream, an illusion so it seems,
this life, life, life what a going away party.

Pre-Chorus

Chorus - repeat
