Unsung Hero

Story Behind The Song

The first draft of the lyric and the idea came from my writing partner JoAnne Rheault. When I went to record it in the studio, I modified it to reflect a more personal feel. I had advice from some very successful songwriters aout making point of view from a spouse's perspective. I think we accomplished that with a minor re-write in the studio.

Lyrics

Unsung Hero

Verse 1

she watched him there waiting to leave
and her tears began to fall
he said "don't worry
sweetheart"
I'll be back in no time at all

then she looked up and asked him
"why go so far away"
to help people you don't even know
and this is what he had to say

Chorus

it's about honour, it's about truth
it's about me and it's about you
it's about freedom, it's about choice
it's about everybody havin' a voice
it's about courage, it's about strength
it's holding evil at arms length
it's about believing in what's right
it's about not giving up this fight

Verse 2

as the words he spoke sunk in
she looked at him with pride
though she still didn't want him to go
she could see the passion in his eyes

he's going to make this word a safe place
answering his countrys' call
he's gonna leave his mark on this world
for peace and freedom for all

Chorus

'cause it's about honour, it's about truth
it's about me and it's about you
it's about freedom, it's about choice
it's about everybody havin' a voice
it's about courage, it's about strength
it's holding evil at arms length
it's about believing in what's right
it's about not giving up this fight

Bridge

as the flag hangs half mast
for the soldier who believed
his conviction ran true and deep
his legacy he leaves
now she feels this emptiness
that just wont go away
she sees the spirit of her fallen one
rising up to say

Chorus

it's about honour, it's about truth
it's about me and it's about you
it's about freedom, it's about choice
it's about everybody havin' a voice
it's about courage, it's about strength
it's holding evil at arms length
it's about believing in what's right
it's about not giving up this fight
