Daddy I'll Do My Best

Story Behind The Song

A straight-from-the-heart lyric from my nephew, 13-year old Matthew, as he sat down and expressed his feelings about his dad having to go away to Iraq to serve for at least a year. Matthew realized he would have to be the 'man' at home now for his mom and little brother while dad was away. He asked me to put the words to music so he could give it to his dad the day he left to remind him that everything would be o.k. at home while he was away. A number of other soldiers were impacted by the message of this song as they too left sons and daughters at home while they served.

Lyrics

"Daddy I'll do My Best"

Dad, I wish you were here to heal my pain
Cause right now it hurts to be me

All night long I think of you risking your life for me,
Dad, I'm broken inside, should I stay or leave this world?.

But daddy I'll do my best to take care of my work
I'll be the man at home while you're away,
And daddy I'll make you proud, just wait and see
And I will not forget that you're doing this for me

Please help me, 'cause right now I need you
I'm broken and I'm confused
I'm sorry for all those hurtful words,
And if I could be with you now, all I would say is, "I Love You".

And daddy I'll do my best to take care of my work
I'll be the man at home while you're away
And daddy I'll make you proud, just wait and see
And I will not forget that you're doing this for Mommy, Michael...and Me.

Daddy, I'll do my best,
