The High Life

Story Behind The Song

My friends and I would always gather at another friends house in Hempstead, TX which is a small town. We'd all bring coolers of alcohol and whatever else we thought would be fun. I had a band at the time called "the high life band" and sometimes we'd go out there and play music for everyone. Most of the time it would just be me though. My friends started calling this the High Life Parties and I thought it was a grand idea for a song. We BBQ'd, rode ATV's and motorcylcles, threw horseshoes, and drank. Being in a country band, this was a description of the high life that many other country people could relate to. I just jotted down ideas that we did and tried to tie it into a song.

I.
Well I get off at five
And it?s a Friday night
All my good friends have called me
Meet out at Dusty?s tonight

II.
N? it?s a simple way of living
But we do living right
We like taking the slow pace
But making good on the time

Chorus.
And we call it the high life
It?s when we have our high times
With the best kind of people
Just enjoying the night
Hey buddy pass me another
I?m gonna stay till the light
Lets just kick back and drink, tell me what do you think
Lets just live the high life

III.
We just lit off that bonfire
Telling jokes through the night
Billy brought that ole? guitar
Man that thing sounds so fine

IV.
Throwing shoes in the backyard
Riding on four-wheeled bikes
Grilling burgers and bratwurst
It?s the same every time

Repeat Chorus

Bridge.
It?s how we do it in the country
We like taking it slow
Take me far from that city boys
And let the cold beer flow

Tag.
Lets just kick back and drink, tell me what do you think
And live the high life
