Bottles Of Tears

Story Behind The Song

In the months leading up to 9-11 I had travelled a number of times to NYC and spent time at the WTC. On my last visit in late May of that year, I had meetings on the 77th floor ot the south tower. On breaks, I would go to the window and look southwest.

Song Description

There are four people identified in this song - two of whom I had met. One was a man from Russia selling t-shirts from an old hot dog cart. It speculates on each of their stories and brings our collective sorrow together in the chorus.

Bottles Of Tears
(For those who perished September 11, 2001)
Bryan Poirier, Manitou Passage Music, ASCAP ©2006

Each year you?d go back to Athens to visit the family and friends
They?d all rejoice your successes and gratefully for gifts that you?d send
Your suite gave the breathtaking skyline
Not dreaming that you?d be the headlines

In search of a new opportunity to offer your children much more
You stood at the base in her shadows selling shirts from your movable store
Russia will always be homeland
But, a chance here was always your dreamland

Chorus
There?s no vessel for tears able to hold what we?ve cried
If they ran like a river no banks could hold them inside
I?m sure the angels caught you, I?m sure they lightened your pain
These Bottles of Tears that we send with you
So you?ll feel the love that remains

Music was all that you lived for; it was chance that you?d be here today
The view was the top of the world; your show was to take place midday
Your dog would await your arrival
But, the stairway was turned into rubble

Chorus

Bridge
You were charged with the safety of others
You went up while they all came down
You saved many, but surrendered your own life
You knew terror would come to this town

Violin Solo

I?m sure the angels caught you; I?m sure they lightened your pain
These Bottles of Tears that we send with you
So you?ll feel the love that remains

Repeat
