the ukelele peace song

Story Behind The Song

i wrote the song in my garden on a hot sunny day with my ukulele, disgusted by the revelations of the lies the uk govt. had told the people about WMD. friends and family came round, i taught them the song, we sang together, the neighbours clapped and cheered.my father challenged me - from his deathbed - to sing it outside 10 downing street. i did. i sang it at his funeral. the little money he left funded this recording.in 2009 this song won honourable mention at the 3rd peacedriven song competition, new york.

Lyrics

we're wound up at the round up
want an end to war today
don't want no more child soldiers
learning killing like it's play
don't want no more chernobyls want an end to nuclear war
we'd rather count in sacks of grain
than corpes of the poor
***
we're wound up at the round up
want the army home today
don't want our boys in body bags
don't see why they should pay
we're through with starving children
soldiers dying in the sand
we'd rather see a future where
we farm - not bomb - the land
***
we're wound up at the round up
want a place for peace to stay
want water shelter schooling
and a land where kids can play
an end to strife that's come about
through guzzling gaseous greed
want peace and love and harmony
to be our world-wide creed
