Song DescriptionOkefenokee - a fun word to sing and a fun place to visit. Kids love this song because it has animal actions and cool sound effects. Very interactive in performance!
Story Behind the SongI live near the Okefenokee Swamp. One year the theme of the Florida Folk Festival was "Swamp Culture" so I decided I needed to write a swamp song. Did a lot of research and visited the swamp and out came this song.

Lyrics
You can't see it all from the boardwalk.
You can't see it all from your canoe?.
Maybe if you were a gator
Swimmin' around in the soup soup soup
Or if you were a water moc
Hangin' from a cypress tree,
You could tell me what it's really like
Livin' in Okefenokee
CHORUS: (wa wa wa)
Okefenokee (wa wa wa)
Okefenokee (wa wa wa)
Okefenokee Swamp
I wonder what the swamp is really like
In the deepest darkest night
When the gator booms like thunder
Workin' up an appetite.
Well if you were a black-faced coon
Creepin' up the loblolly
You could tell me what it's really like
Livin' in Okefenokee.
CHORUS
BRIDGE: Well, I want my swamp (stomp stomp stomp)
I want it clean and litter free
For the sandhill crane (whoopin' in the rain)
For the lizards and the skink
For the fat mud fish (squish squish squish)
The curvy turtle on the log
For the knobby old knees (cypress, if you please)
And a jillion singin' frogs (peep peep peep peep???..etc.)
Well, honey, you'd better say your prayers
If you wander in the swamp alone.
The shaking earth might eat you up.
You may never make it home. (Mommmmmyyyyy?..)
You can follow in the track of the black bear
Learn the legend of Dan Lee.
He could tell you what it's really like
Livin' in Okefenokee.
