Song Description

Intriguing piano and guitar melodies in the intro set the stage for this high-energy, heavy guitar driven teen angst anthem. The shifts in mood from the conservative verses to the aggressive chorus make for effective song dynamics. The bridge takes off on a welcome tangent only to drift seamlessly back into the chorus melody, for a final, heavily reinforced and stripped down delivery of the hook.

Story Behind the Song

Jimmy got his first job at the local bakery when he was only 13 years old. Every summer from then on he worked at every different fast food chain, grocery store, warehouse and factory in town. He spent most of his money on booz and cigarettes but by the time he was eighteen he had managed to save up just enough to buy his first vintage Les Paul electric guitar. This was the first song Jimmy ever wrote.

Lyrics

I hate my job
My life?s a bore
I?m still in debt
And I don?t think I can take it anymore

All around me plastic people wasting time
Superficiality consuming lies
When there?s so much more to life than what you buy
So much more?
Now it?s time to throw convention out the door
Elevate your mind and let your spirit soar
Seek out all the pleasures life has in store
All the pleasures?

I hate my job
My life?s a bore
I?m still in debt
And I don?t think I can take it anymore

Come with me my child, leave all your things behind
To a place ungoverned by space and time
Where we?ll dance and sing to our hearts? desire
Come with me?
Now it?s time to throw convention out the door
Elevate your mind and let your spirit soar
Seek out all the pleasures life has in store
All the pleasures?

Reach for the stars if only to see
If you leave the ground
And seize each of your days if only to be
Alive for a change
