this song paints a picture of a child raised by a single mother who dies young . The boy makes his own way as the lyric describes, "everything I ever got I learned it on the run" Then as a man, finds it hard to put down roots and settle down. He is chained to the legacy of a father he never knew and struggles to break away from the behavior that preceded him. He is still not sure he can do it and warns off his lover " I don't know if I can shake these restless bones " Maybe the sins of the father have been bestowed upon the son. Is this restlessness inherited? does he have "rambling in his blood" The artist say's the idea came from his fathers experience, as his father left him when he was 12 years old. The song is set up with a traditional form , acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmony.
