Oh Golly, Lookie

Story Behind The Song

I wanted to explore the many facets of the holidays with my Christmas album, "From Here to Nativity" so I included a novelty song, because, what's a Christmas album without some conections?

Song Description

My album, "From Here to nativity" is a holiday journey that begins in Advent and runs through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to Epiphany. Along the way, there are serious moments ,joyful moments, and a few confections. This is one of those. In the spirit of popular novelty Christmas songs, we encounter a buy who thinks he got stiffed by Santa. A hilarious trio of backup singers a la "Little Shop of Horrors" comments on his dilema. It's all sung with a fifties rock 'n' roll feel, but with some modern references, too.

Lyrics

O Golly, Lookie

O Golly, lookie
Santa ate all the cookies
And he drank all the hot chocolate
But I don't think he's finished yet
'cause there's no present under the tree
(well, at least not for me)

Oh, Mama, lookie
My little brother got a Wookie
And my sis got a soccer ball
But there's nothing here for me at all
Nothing that I can see
Well now, how can that be?

Well, Papa,
I know I haven't been too good
But I thought Santa understood
I'd be better next year
Maybe he didn't get my letter
At least that's what I fear

Bridge
I'll do the dishes
I'll clean my room
I'll take the trash out
I'll get the broom
I really mean it
So don't assume
Just like the Grinch my budding goodness finally bloomed...

What's that now, Papa?
You say you found a note from Santa
One present didn't fit down the chimney
And it's outside on the balcony
And apparently it's mine
Oh, I wonder what I'll find

Oh, Mama, lookie!
Santa left one of the cookies
And it's on top of a new bicycle
Just when I felt cold like an icicle
He gave me such a big surprise
And I can't believe my eyes!
And you know that I'll be good
Just like I promised that I would

(Fade starts-little brother sings)
Ah, Mama, lookie
All Santa gave me is a Wookie
Mother speaks: "Well, now that's what you asked for, Santa can't read minds"
And my brother got a bicycle
Mother: "That was on his list!"
And he never does a thing at all
Mother: "Now, now, you'll get a bike when you get older...."
