A Million Tears

Story Behind The Song

Song Description

A song for Africa. A song against the famine that is now present in Africa. I started to write this song in 1985, after Live Aid. I wrote it for U2. Now, as I grown older I developed myself as a poet and improved my song. If you can sing or play music, please sing my song. Let this be a fan song for U2 by all their fans. We all want an end to hunger in Africa and if we sing this song everybody knows it's always on our mind. I have no voice because of a tumor in the hollow spaces of my head. If you can sing, if you can play, please sing and play my song and let it be a tribute to U2, a band who played so many song for us. Now we give them a song back. All the people in this world can hear it and become aware of the urgent situation in Africa and do something about it!

Lyrics

A Million Tears

INTRO / VERSE 1
Tonight I'd like to say a prayer
for Africa, her children
As we live here and you live there
One world together
one to share

CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If we would make a wish, one day
it may come true
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you

VERSE 2
Where you were born now rules despair
Clothes ragged and torn is all you wear
Disease and hunger you'll endure
cause there is hope, but
still no cure

VERSE 3
When night falls you'll be full of fear
the sound of boots is what you hear
You'll sleep under the bare moonlight
afraid for soldiers
in the night

CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If we would make a wish, one day
it may come true
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you

INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE

VERSE 4
You want your children to survive
so they can have a better life
But poorness always breaks the rule
and children work, instead
of school

VERSE 5
There, where the sun will never sleep
I hear the mothers, fathers weep
For millions of their girls and boys
no food, no water
homes or toys

CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If I could change the world, there's so
much I would do
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you

REPEAT CHORUS
Forever is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If we would change the world, there's so
much we could do

We all can change the world, there's so
much we can do

Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
