Feelings

Story Behind The Song

I got close to a girl and developed strong feelings for her during a brief time that we worked together. I was taken by her beauty the first time we met but as I got to know her I liked who she was as a person as well. I'm normally guarded with my affection but we were in a theater environment and I let myself go and feel...which ended up being the hardest part. I let my guard down one of the few times in my life and after the production ended and I tried to keep up with her she wasn't responsive.

Song Description

A song with a simple melody but great lyrical word play to create imagery that conjures the heartache of a broken heart. Written from a male perspective which is often taken for granted, this song exposes the vulnerable heart of a guy ready for love but hurt by the rejection of the center of his affection.

Lyrics

CHORUS:
What's the use in having feelings if they make you feel like this?
I thought I'd take a chance in this circumstance and throw caution to the wind,
I let my emotions take me to a place that don't exist where our love had a chance to grow,
But you walked away and love walked out the door.
Hmmm, you walked away and love walked out the door.

VERSE:
I'm normally not the kind of guy who opens up easily,
It takes more than a pretty smile to pique my curiosity,
I admit you're beautiful your body's visual poetry,
The way you move speaks a thousand words what a masterpiece to read,
But what drew me to you is more than what the eye can see,
I let my guard down to show myself that anything's possible.

CHORUS

VERSE
They say it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all,
That sounds good on paper but this feeling says they're wrong.
I could've just admired you from a distance that was safe,
But I followed my imagination that was a critical mistake.
There's no one else to blame for this heartache and pain,
I want to give love another go but can my heart take anymore?

CHORUS

What's the use in having feelings if they make you feel like this?
(repeat twice)
