Selfish Asylum

Story Behind The Song

I witnessed a homeless man sitting outside a convenience store with a rundown sign that stated he had went bankrupt and lost his family. I was overlooking it at first until I saw the worry in his eyes, and so I sat there waiting to see what would happen before I confronted him. After hours, I witnessed thousands of people walk right by him without giving him any notice or concern whatsoever. I walked up to the man, and talked to him about his problems for an hour or so, then stood up, shook his hand, placed a $50 in it, and walked away. My day was instantly made, and it disgusts me to see the lack of concern our generation has for the folks waiting in poverty.

Song Description

Too many people misjudge the use of greed in society, and they overplay the roles of the homeless. No matter where one who is homeless travels, no one will give homage unless there is a skill involved. This song highlights the pain one would get after seeing countless hours of loneliness, and what you need to do in order to stop this trend from continuing.

Lyrics

You walk a mile away from home
To cope with where you belong
You see an innocent child all bound to a pole
It was a quarter past ten
You were exhausted just like all of them
The kid begs and pleads for me
But you moved along

All dusty brown and red
Piling boxes up to make their bed
When you stare into the darling's eyes
You die inside, but you say so long
So looonngg

Just a selfish asylum is where we live
Taking life for granted and no money to give
It's only leave them to be, and save yourself please
These kids cry out daily, for somebody to help
But we are too busy speaking for ourselves

We just cry out loud
While we just laugh in the crowd
Hey oh

You got to step up, and give them some time
To be free for themselves and be happy with a dime
You have to give them your heart, not keep to yourself
Nothing else should matter, not your money nor wealth
You see them everyday passing by in a glance
They hold laces in their pockets, but no change in their hands
They smile right at you, but they get nothing in return
Because you leave them stranded just to hope that they would burn

Hey oh, Hey oh, Hey oh
Selfish asylum is where we live
Burden placed in our heart, because we have nothing to give
Hey oh, Hey oh, Hey oh
Selfish asylum is where we strive
Take it out on them, to make sure we're alive

You run, you cry, and hope that you don't die
To see the end of days is a thought that you don't hide
Walking down the road seeing kids that aren't alive
Makes me wonder nowadays what these people call a pride
You speak, you're weak, and barely on your feet
Telling tales of depression, kids burning for a week
It's the last time, the final time; your havoc shall be wreaked
This is our obsession; it's the greed we must defeat

Hey oh, Hey oh, Hey oh
Selfish asylum is where we live
Burden placed in our heart, because we have nothing to give
Hey oh, Hey oh, Hey oh
Selfish asylum is where we strive
Take it out on them, to make sure we're alive
