Red Rock Hill, You Paint The Picture Well In "Dodson" ... Love The Lyric Albeit Not Singing About Sunnybrook Farm ... Raw & Real. ... Great Work / Production ... Best Wishes For Wherever Life & The Music May Lead You ... J Nelson K
Thanks so much for the kind words, J! I love Dodson; Jay captured both a town and my uncle's life in the song. Bob Fillpot was an architect, he designed the Enron building and two other skyscrapers in Houston. In March, he died in Asheville, NC. It was fun to stop by and listen to your music, as well -- you must inspire many with your messages. Thank you again for taking time to send a note. -- Elise
Congrats on leading ahead of me on the No Repeats can! Remember, your songs are Stellar and need to be heard! Shine On! - N
Thanks, Nick -- we feel just the same about your music. Were just talking about how brilliant your songwriting is again this morning. Six Pack is most festive when taken lightly for what it is...Last year we enjoyed two weeks of glory and then philosophically accepted the plummet to the depths. : )
Hey guys ... just want to say ... Rock On and great job on KUNI the other night! :)
Thanks, Ric!!!
I absolutely love your music!
Great cover of "Long Black Veil", and "Low" is very nice too. Good luck on that radio show!
Thanks so much, Ian!
I listened to all of your material here on the Iowa Top 10. Wow! Great music. Alan
Thanks so much, Alan! (Apologies for the late reply...I've been barnsitting for a friend and not on the internet other than work.)
So excited for the 2012 6-Pack competition...can't wait to start listening!! Sending a shout out to everyone making music and sharing it here on Broadjam!
Red Hill Rockers. Big Bang would make a great Rock-Psychedelic tune if you do an electric version with a few Moans in it! Damn fine tune! It smokes, man! - N
God Bless Red Rock Hill, their families and friends. You are a treasure for the ears. And, for that simple act of your sharing, I return the THANKS for the Giving. as always - pgo
: ) !!!
You and I have taken over the Iowa Top 10 Charts! Wow...way to go guys! :) Lori
Very festive! : ) We've got to click over there and check it ou! Are in Des moines, Lori??
Keep the Fine Line: Excellent! Come join me (a man of good reputation) but that is only one side. If Lou Reed had Heroin, I would join him in the gutter! (My Dementos have been called the new Velvet Underground) Love your sound, so I'm sending you a Friendly Handshake!
So festive that you connected with Fine Line...I love it, too : ) Jay'll really appreciate the good words, Nick...and love that you "get" it...
and there's another connection...when we play out, we do a medley that starts with Walk on the Wild Side and morphs into Friend of the Devil
Hey Red Rock, very cool fishing song. Love the instrumentation, interesting vocal treatment!
Right on...Jay still hasn't heard your songs yet, Brian! He leaves for his annual fishing trip in eastern Utah tomorrow, so will be a week 'til he gets a chance to listen...but what a great reason for delay! : D
Hi Red Rock--- Just listened to "Long Black Veil" - great tune. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much!! It's been covered about 1000 times for good reason...really appreciate that you let us know you like our version! : )
Hi and thanks for reviewing The Lonestar. Any reason you didn't click on the ratings? I'm guessing it's just a thing you don't do as don't like to or something :D
This was one of the first reviews I've done and I rejected the lykert scale out of hand for your song. Would be fine for a slick, soulless production, but those scales can't capture a song's power or beauty accurately at all...a voice or music may be raw or unusual and therefore improvable on a sterile scale, but the raw or unique may be exactly what makes a song beautiful...for what it's worth, your song is quite wonderful and memorable...the only perhaps worthwhile comment I can offer besides my appreciation for it is the technical mix issue I mentioned about the vocals.
OH, ok, I'm seeing what/why you did now. It's hard to review and often times I wish they had a 1/2 marker as well. Thanks for your compliments!
You're welcome, Wednesday. Are you in Houston?? If so, here's hoping the storm just blows on over and ends the TX drought without flooding the coast...take care!
Got your other message about seeing that I'm in B.C.. I have an aunt and uncle in Houston and drew that song from my experience visiting there and Austin (love Austin!). At the time I wrote the song, democrat Ann Richards was governor in Texas , so some of the lyrics are kinda dated because of that. Oh well :D
