Dear Ken Lehnig, you just reviewed our song, "You'll Survive", that tune was one of first songs we recorded after we purchased Studio One. The version you heard is a tad brutal! If you get a chance, drop on by our M & A Broad Jam site and have a listen to some of our newer compositions! Toodles...... So, you reside in Chula Vista California, we are up North a ways in Covina, Ca.
I will do that. Look forward to it.
Hi all. I have been away for a year working on a novel and traveling. I'm happy to be back amongst my peers and with a new album project just about ready for release. Ken, thanks for the 5's on " Northern Climes ". Bill
Absolutely my pleasure.
Your welcome.
I did a wonderful show last night for a Church Coffee shop. What was cool is I constructed the set in such a way that I played several of my faith songs, not necessarily suitable for Church service, as well as story songs about` very human trouble and strife. The audience really reacted well to the whole set. Faith and secular songs have always been exclusive. I have secular songs that bring in spiritual/religious elements and I have faith songs that utilize very hard secular elements. I'm wondering if there isn't a market for a blending of the two rather than keeping them exclusive. Any one have any thoughts. Ken
Hi, Ken. I'll share my thoughts. I think what makes religious and secular music appear exclusive are the artists, not the music. If Nicki Minaj came out with a pop-style song about rebirth and forgiveness, no one would call it a faith song, but if the same song was done by Steven Curtis Chapman, everyone would call it a faith song. I have heard many country songs mention God and prayer without being specifically about faith, and I know I've heard "secular" pop/rap songs mention religious things. -Mark
Great point. I wonder if it is a regional/demographic issue. Country stars do well in most all markets that you wouldn't think would be a fit. Thanks for the response Mark
Blending both faith music and secular is cool to me and I have written some Christian songs and secular .. both can touch anyone's life at any point in time:)!.. Esp. If they can relate to someone's experiences in life faith- based or not:)
It's all in the artist's interpretation (as Mark mentioned ) and how one can relate to what we try to convey!:)
Thank you Julia my take exactly.
Summer's Wings has a very cool ending. Lovely song.
Thank you Paul.
Thankyou very much for the 5 stars on "The Hanging Tree" and "(It Don't Get) Better Than This". Appreciated ;-)
Absolutely my friend.
I just posted a voice/guitar demo of a song that came from a poem. A song about the battle of Shiloh in the Civil War from the southern perspective. It's a 'not done much anymore' song form. Let me know what you think.
i like it ken. you should post the lyrics. sounds good. i like that style of song.
Thank you Tristyn I will.
Hi Ken, Thanks for the 5 stars for Demons In Your Darkness, much appreciated. Bob
My pleasure my friend.
Hey there Ken -Thank you for the 5 star review on " Dreadful News from a Recently Refurbished Garage " Have been listening to your cuts as well - wonderful stuff ,creative , imaginative --well done - Cheers ,Tony D
Thank you Tony. My pleasure.
Hello there Ken, Glad you liked Time with You. I wrote it as a "quiet time song". I just love spending time with my Lord. I've known Jesus as my Savior for over 40 years. He is faithful! Hope to review your songs soon! Mrs Kate in FL (originally from Van Nuys, CA)
I loved the garden metaphors it made the song more assessable. God keep you.
Thanks, Ken. I don't always use metaphor. That's one of the one times I did.
Thank you for your review. At the time I lived in a noisy apartment so I didn't want to use a mic so I used a pickup. I just wanted to keep this very basic but if I re-record it I would produce it a bit. I put it out there mostly for the message.
Got it. The message was just fine - spirit filled. I posted 'God means everything" it's a guitar/voice demo. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
God is Everything to me is quite powerful, thank you for sharing this.
Many thanks for the 5 stars.
It didn't give you five stars my friend it was five stars.
I like it very much Ken, excellent lyrics and story. The tune is also just right for the song. It's a stark production, and that was probably on purpose because it fits the mood. My feelings are that if you were using it for a project you might like to consider removing a little reverb from the vocal and bringing it slightly forward from the guitar. The song could very easily take some more instrumentation, maybe fiddle, mandolin etc. but the main thing is to keep the excellent story to the forefront. Those are just my thoughts but I do really like the song so whatever you choose to do, good luck with it. Bob
I just posted a new demo "An Old Man' I'm considering including it o a new project. Please let me know what you think,
Hi Ken, Many thanks for the stars for From A Distance much appreciated by me and Julia. Bob
Thank you all for putting "Willy's Got An Old Gibson' at#2 on Blues/rural top ten and "Eleanor' at #2 on Blues/ country. The very best to all of you and big love from me.
Ken, I love this song - would love to do an arrangement of it.
Hi Jim! What song my friend?
"Used to be" ... sorry...I thought the song was somehow tied to the message, but I guess it wasn't. I love to arrange strings, orchestra, and I LOVE this song - would love to try my hand at seeing what else I can do with it: keep the vocal, rhythm guitar & bass, and maybe piano track, and add my own flavors of strings. All rights etc. would still be yours of course. It's just a hobby for me, and when I find a song I like as much as this one, I love to see what I can do with it. If not, I understand - you would have to send me the separate tracks, and I don't know how much of a pain that would be, or if it's even feasible or desirable for you. Something to think about though, if interested. I would eventually post my version on my broadjam page, with all credits to you & reference to your page for the original. If not, no worries, it's great as is. My taste is kind of old fashion and I think most people will prefer what you have now than anything I do with it.
I appreciate that you liked it.That song is locked in with a publishing company so I couldn't do that unless you covered it completely. Old fashion is good and I am open to a collaboration
You mean redo it from scratch? Without your vocals?
Yes or we could work together on a new song and if we liked it we would publish it through my publisher.
OK. I can't do any vocals myself, and I moved away from everyone I know. If I did this from scratch I'd still need you to make a new vocal track..or are you not allowed by agreements with publisher? Also I liked how you sang it - part of the appeal of the song to me. We could do a new one, but GREAT songs are hard to come by, and I'm dying to exploit this one for it's potential. Sadly I can only work on it Sundays for now, since I have to work 6 days a week 'til June. So we have some time to think about what to do. Incidently, this isn't my original broadjam page...not sure what happened, but when I tried to change my address I got a new page, so my songs are on another, if you want to see the ball park of what I do with songs - & like I said I guess it's outdated now, but...the best example is "rolling seas" ---2 [slightly] different arrangements there. The instrumentals listed were targeted at specific broadjam opportunities -they're a little schmarmy...just ignore - I won't make your song sound that way ;) http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=69827 1 if the link doesn't work just type Jim Staker in the search box at top of page and you'll get both profiles.
Wow! I'm going to ask my publisher to allow you to work on this! I'll let you know!
Thanks...I liked the strings they put on 'Used to be', I just wanted them to come out more somehow. It sounds like they recorded real instruments.
Jim, You could have a percentage of the arrangement credit if you add more instruments to the song. The multitrack is fairly complex. The label - American Windsong Music controls the performance of the tracks on the song. You would have to sign an agreement to pay the label a percentage of any sales as the musicians need to be paid. How would you like to get the tracks? It would be possible to send you a remix without any tracks not needed. The individual tracks are now in 88.2/24bit format and the "project" file is developed by Presonus "Studio one v.2". Best to you, Ken
Cool! I use Dropbox.com and send about 35mb I'll check the size of the file and get back to you.I'm looking forward to what you create.
I have dropbox ---I just made a folder for us, but forgot how I share it. How do I invite you to share it?
Sorry my friend things have been crazy.'ll see if I can't pull the tracks less the strings.
I thought you might have died or gone for a hospital stay. Glad to see you're OK - crazy is better than dead :) No worries...and no hurry - I'm at the last 5 weeks of a day-job project that leaves no time for anything not even house cleaning, and wouldn't have been able to work on it much anyway until almost June.
Ken - thanks for your review of 'electricity'. I appreciate the kind remarks.
My pleasure my talented friend.
