Just to be clear, I don't expect every "friend" to respond to an email blast. But those who have dropped songs into my inbox and received stars, reviews, support, etc and can't stir themselves to read a mail much less offer some sort of feedback are being addressed (and dropped from future interaction). The "all about me" shit doesn't cut it here...go get a MySpace page if that's what your deal is.
Meanwhile you have people like Ionut, Cyndi, Doug, Frank, Dianne, Thierry, Nick, Peter, Penny, Anthony, Jim and others I'll forget to mention or are in other orbits but supportive there that make this a fun and meaningful community! Let the duds go find fame and fortune on Music Xray...

Jeff, I wasn't referring to that site...I don't even know what it is. I noticed you removed me from your friends list and was curious as to why. I'm lucky if 10% of the people I send messages to respond. Sometimes the response is positive, sometimes not. I don't have a clue why the ones who don't respond, don't. Maybe their day job has got them working overtime, maybe they're ill, maybe they don't know exactly what to say, maybe Bjam isn't the only outlet they have for their music. I've always appreciated your input and agree that some of us don't always live up to your expectations. I love Bjam and all those who have I have come into contact with here.... Bill
Agree. Broadjam is 99% for getting feedback from other musicians and you need to give to get. Some people are way more active than others. I come and go depending on when I release new music but always try and do a few reviews because I know how valuable the feedback has been for me. There are only a very lucky few who ever get their music placed. IMO, If you want to "make it" in the music business (or even have a shot) you need to fully commit and move to Nashville or LA.

You're very welcome. Hope what I had to say helped. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to Review Songs here. It seems a lot of people are putting Demos up instead of Radio Ready Recordings. The Rating System seems to be all about the Recording Quality and less about Song Structure, etc. which makes me want to talk more about the actual Recording than the Song. So some of my Reviews may come off a bit harsh. The last thing I'd want to do is discourage anyone.
Nice to have my newest song "Down in Flames" selected for two different opportunities by two different providers. I've been off Broadjam for a while taking a break and just recently upgraded to the Primo membership so this is a great way to start! Happy Holidays and best wishes to everyone!

Very pleased that Time To Think (and possibly other songs?) has been selected for placement in a Publishing/Licensing company library in USA and worldwide. Just trying to resolve some contract differences but am hopeful we can agree on long term copyright issues.

I think contracts are generally more favourable these days, with reversionary clauses if the music is not getting used within 2 or maybe 3 years. My first 'champagne' moment was in 1965 when my tune 'Golden Dawn' was contracted to The Shadows. It was never used, and has been a prisoner of that contract ever since. The recording on my page was made by me in 1995 just for fun, but I can't do anything with it. About right. This agreement gives me the songs back after 3 years if no deal is done. I've decided that at 69 tender years of age (!) holding 100% of my copyrights simply means I'm ruling out any chance of earning recognition or dosh, i.e. holding 100% of nothing! Here's to 2021 when you get Golden Dawn back!!

Can anyone explain to me how a BJ member can be top in 3 cans and in the top 20 of each of the other cans in the 6 pack challenge when there are no songs listed on their site? Is it possible to hide all your tracks somehow, if not where do the songs come from to go in the 6 pack? I find this competition too puzzling for words?!

This is also my 1st attempt at the six pack and I'd be interested to know how many songs are submitted to each can. It would give more meaning to the placings. My current range is joint 1st to 222nd.

Yeah, Its strange to me to see many of the same people in the top positions across different "cans". I'd guess not that many are entered as there's no way 4 or 5 people could dominate every category.

Bob, thank you so much for your comments. I truly appreciate them!! I have friends of mine who play bass and drums for me but I write all the music/lyrics and point them in the direction I hear in my head! LOL! Fortunately, they are great musicians and are able to translate my suggestions well. I certainly leave it open to interpretation as well and let them do their thing as well. Just an FYI note to the few connections I have here on Broadjam. I attended the ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo in Hollywood CA last week. (the top event in the US for independent songwriters/artists) It was absolutely fabulous and I encourage you all to go/check it out. It was interesting to hear that no one I spoke to, and we're talking about the TOP ASCAP/industry/Publishing execs had ever heard of or used Broadjam. You probably all know of the "Taxi" company that offers a Broadjam like service. They were there, had a booth, had music pros/known artists reviewing/critiquing music for free etc. I'm not necessarily saying anything bad about Broadjam or saying they are not legit. I'm only expressing that they apparently aren't very well known. Also, to be fair, I spoke with lots of people that had zero success with Taxi and would not be renewing their memberships. Not one person I spoke with said either Broadjam or Taxi were good vehicles for getting your music published. I learned ALLOT at this convention about the ins and outs of the music/songwriting world. For unknowns like us, it is and will continue to get more difficult to get a deal as TV/Film/Soundtracks have become the new radio for artist. You used to be a "sellout" if you were an artist who allowed your music on TV. Today, it's how bands/musicians can really generate revenue as the radio/internet pays nothing. I could go on and on. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this along. I'm still going to write/record and follow my dreams. I'll still use Broadjam as well as I haven't really been on here long enough to make a full determination if it's good for me or not. It certainly sounds like many have had some success here. Scott, Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate all input. Broadjam has been in business 15 years and has been an exhibitor at the ASCAP Expo every year since its inception approximately 10 years ago. This is the first year (2014) we have chosen not to exhibit but more than likely will be back next year. Although we have consulted for ASCAP, provided submissions for the Expo and continue to work with them in various ways, we obviously need to spend some more dollars on marketing. Social networking, transmission mechanism, 5 different review mechanisms for feedback, blogs, download sales, reviews from the Pros, Top 10 charts and many others are part of the website. Although 10 - 11% of our members who use the music licensing service find some level of success from it, we consistently hear from members who say the biggest benefit of Broadjam are the "people they meet and the connections they make." I guess you hit the nail on the head from the marketing side of the fence in getting more folks to know about Broadjam. I did speak positively of the company and even used Broadjam review quotes on my songwriter promo disc. I'm pretty sure you'll have some new folks checking it out.

I wanted to weigh in on this one... I share Scott's scepticism about placements, not only here but generally, having done Taxi and Music Xray, both of which seem to be money mills with little given in return. But I must say emphatically that I have enjoyed the Broadjam experience so much, and it's really a big part of my musical life. When you work hard to write and record music you're desperate to have ears on your work, giving feedback and appreciation. And reviewing the work of others brings some startlingly good new music (like Scott's) into your life as well as some wonderful new friends, colleagues, and fans. Reviewing in earnest is a great way to improve the all important critical listening that's essential to creating your own music with more discernment and skill. There is a wonderful community here that actively encourages and supports its members. That is an incredible benefit, and you won't find that on other sites. I would argue for greater transparency in the opportunities as far as whether the point of contact is a decision maker or another layer of middle man. But I saw a mention on the page of a person that I reviewed yesterday that they'd gotten placements through a Broadjam opportunity, and that wasn't a top down PR blast. I did one year as a paying member but have been participating as a free member since. I had just decided to pay for another year in return for the great enjoyment this site brings when I saw Scott's post. I think there are a number of improvements that could be made to this site but I'm so appreciative of the good things already happening here.
Jeff, Thanks for your note and your thoughts. We hear over and over again that the "best thing about Broadjam" is the community. We have always viewed Music Licensing as a significant part of what we do, but not the only thing we do. Obviously, licensing is a very competitive business for indie musicians and Broadjam as well. We know that most will have a hard time finding the success the desire, so we do continue to build out the feature sets to keep our members engaged with each other. While we do present the contracts with the exact details of the deal prior to submission, maybe there is a better way to be more transparent.....or maybe we have to do a better job at presenting the transparency. One other note - just about all providers are also Pro Reviewers, so if you would like to submit directly to them, it is a little more expensive, but it is an option. With all that said, we will keep working to improve all aspects of the site. You are absolutely correct regarding reviewing. I listen to about 40 songs a day and every day I get stopped in my tracks with a song that just blows me away. It is inspiring. Serious listening and reviewing has made me a better musician.
