Thanks so much Linda. That's very kind of you. Any songs in particular? I've become very forward in my old age. Working on my own album (never done one before) I've contacted Bob Clearmountain to see if he'll mix one of my songs. The nerve lol!

Hey you songsters & music nuts, this song "Thank You Mom", has been making some people move & shake! To the point, you may be seeing some snappy news soon regarding this song which is quickly becoming a "project" with it's message.... now that's all I can say here without giving it all away ... Listen here:

Written about the miracle of life from the perspective of the "almost aborted child" when his teenage mom (by a prayer) decides to have the child. The song is sung from the perspective of the hild after he is grown, thank his mother for giving him the opportunity to live and become "me".

Just Finished writing a brand New Song about "Music" ... one that I can barely play, but once I learn it, it's gonna be the bomb. I think I'm better at the lyrics, but on this song, I was challenging myself on the musical side as well .... hearing parts in my head (musically) that I can't play easily on guitar... and honestly, I even heard piano parts ... but I don't play piano, so that's not happening in this life today. I will stick with trying to learn the guitar parts that my head instructed me to play. Does anybody know where music comes from? Really?

Cooped up in a wintery blizzard for 2 days, so what cha gonna do but write a new song? A new one cropped out over the last couple of days through the winter "chill" .... and it definitely has it's "folk roots" showing. I saw somewhere that folk music was coming back into vogue? Well if it ain't so, I'm ready for the next wave! The song is called "College Heart" and has a ton of melody & words. It's funny how you can write a song and then you have to spend time learning how to sing it! I pulled out my 12 string for this one and wow I forgot how cool those things can sound! I will brush up on the performance of the song and put it out here for your critique (after I become more fluent playing & singing it). I think you may like it!

I'm wondering what software is the easiest to learn to use in making a home-made video of one of my original songs (using still pictures , , , cuz moving pictures might be a little harder to start out with). Any advice is helpful!

Yes I've heard that before! I've got one guy that I write with that brings Paul - or John - or George out :) I'm trying to stop doing that. A friend just asked me to write a song about George Harrison as a favour so that will be up here soon. Help - I've been typecast!

Nashville is great for that. They can make you sound better than you really are! Not cheap tho! Most people go to disney for vacation, I go downtown once a year for a recording session! Fun tho even if I'm fussin' about the cost!

Author

I'd like to do that. Hired an LA session singer for my new Christmas song which turned out very inerestin' - as Neil Young would say. I originally wrote it as a "standard" type song with all those cool jazzy changes then decided to try and turn it into what I call an "urban standard" complete with a hip hop drum programmer - but that's a whole other story - one day when we're on the road hitch hiking. You are very talented Linda - keep doing what you're doing!

I wouldn't let them produce my song if I weren't present...it could go any which way! I would rather pay 50 bucks to a studio guys home studio production than a thousand to a big time producer who had total creative control... the production is critical.

Author

I agree - that's why I slave away doing everything myself even if I don't quite get what I hear in my head production wise in my little home studio. But as Ive always been a songwriter more than an artist I am fascinated to hear someone else's interpretation of one of my songs. There's been a few artists that have done pretty cool things but most have missed the mark - for me anyways.

Yeah, the little voice in your head .... sometimes only you can hear it. But once in a while you turn out something even better than your little voices were telling you! I just opened a bed n breakfast here to try to help me make some extra money for my "habit" (the studio). Here is my room I rent on a B&B type circuit if you should ever be able to refer someone wanting to come & stay in the Nashville, TN area:

Wow - that's a very cool place - I'd love to visit there sometime.

Yes I've written all kinds of stuff over the years and still do. From blues to jazz and everything in between. Last year there was a contest here to write the top line for a band track put up for the Elliot Root band (I think they may be based in Nashville). I believe I came in third but managed to put a sort of singing hip hop verse as well as an old school R&B flavoured chorus into it - haha - I kind of like it but don't know what to do with it now - I'd have to do the beds over somehow as they own that part. The new music biz - write by committee! Have a listen if you're interested. http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=69977&mediaID=555196 1

Let me know what you're up to as I like your stuff. Cheers Linda!
