Hi Donna - I'm fine with ears securely attached. Of course, I'd be very interested in your thoughts. I'm supposing you sent those comments by Broadjam email, but I don't see it there. Probably a malfunction. You can use this email address: echo088880@gmail.com

Thanks Robert, I really do appreciate it! I had a quick turn around on this one and didn't have as much time as I would like to work on transitions. turned it in 20 minutes before the deadline. You know how that is:-)

Hi Donna - Just listened to your new tune: "Catching My Stride." Always enjoy checking out your new material. You're so skilled and inventive, and this one really highlights your ability to lay down a groove in electronic; a realm that, as other artists do it, often seems automated and mechanical. So well done!

Robert.., I didn't mean I did the song in 20 minutes, more like 4 hours, but I turned it in about 20 minutes before the deadline. Didn't want you to get the wrong impression my friend....I wish I could get it done that quickly:)

Yes Donna, I missed that the first time around (misread it). Still, four hours is amazing to me. I think, from hearing your other material as well, that you have a great ear and mind for complex ideas and the judgment about how to get it down in a pretty direct fashion. Four hours seems incredible to me because my pattern seem to be; come up with something that I think sounds great today, and tomorrow it's "that's awful, what could I have been thinking/hearing." Or something I don't like so well, but keep and the next day, I love it. I'll have to work on refining that.

Oh yes, you are crackin me up. Some do flow out sweetly but others..., ugh! Ah, our job is to lament and toil.:) If I have to much time to work on anything then I can't ever stop tweaking it. I mean never. My husband, who is a guitarist always tells me to< "Let it go". I'm trying to learn to do that. I practically can't sleep knowing I sent something out and there was too much reverb on this or that or the EQ isn't right. Alas, I must learn to let it go.

That's pretty funny. I know what you mean, but even though I have a long way to go, one of the big things I've learned is that "less is sometimes more." Now the challenge is having the good judgment to decide exactly when to apply that idea. I like to think it's an evolution toward the better, but I guess that's a never ending process for those of us with maniacal rotating pinwheel eyes.

I am fortunate enough to have landed a composing gig for "Spider Cues" music. From its offices in Universal Studios, Spider Cues represents a roster of over 60 composers with a vast experience in providing high impact music for feature films, trailers, radio and advertising and broadcast. I am so excited:)

Congratulations, Donna. I happened across that from your "news" from the Notifications page. Sounds like a great opportunity and avenue for your talent. Glad to see it. Also noticed the reference to Buddy Rich, on your page. That must have been pretty interesting. Spectacular drummer and what a character.

Thanks guys! Do either of you remember the studio guitarist in the 70's Grant Geissman, who played that tasty solo in a Chuck Mangione song? Can't remember the title. If you are old enough to remember that song then you would like to know that Grant became a composer-Grammy award winning for a bunch of TV spots. He is in this Spider cues composers list. He was always a musician's-musician and one of my heros. Your so right about Buddy being a character. I was a young chic when I opened and I was insanely nervous. I think I had perspiration dripping off my forehead on to the piano keys and mascara running down my face at the same time while I was performing. He really did tell that I did a great job when I was walking off. Those 2 words were pretty special coming from him! Truly amazing drummer.

Hi Nina,
Which gig do you mean--the Buddy Rich gig or the Spidercues?

Author
Donna Banks

so Nina, I got the Spider Cues job by submitting to Sonicbids which I am a member. I actually submitted an orchestral song apparently to a company wanting vocal cues. They listened and then sent my stuff over to another part of their company...Spider Cues. I submitted some more music and they wanted me to change some things and so after 2 months I submitted 5 songs and my demo and they loved it. Whew! I was sweating it. They still want to hear my string sounds improve before they sell any of my songs for the big ticket items. I'm working on that and practically can't sleep until I get them the way that they want. :)

Thanks for the input my friend. I submitted this piece and then re- uploaded the piece with an added section. I noticed the new section has not been updated in my songs yet. It will eventually update won't it? I also want the provider or client to hear the new updated version than what you have heard and just wondered how that works. If you can shed any light, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again for giving my song a listen!

I may be able to answer this. Did you just re-upload today? Usually the old version still plays until the new (re-)upload makes it around to all the servers worldwide. When I've done this, it took about 12 hours (if I remember correctly). Once it does make it, it will replace the original version, so, I believe, the provider will hear the correct version. I'm fairly certain of this, but if you want to really be sure, you could contact Broadjam Customer Service. They're very helpful in explaining that sort of thing.

Ok..., good deal! I re- uploaded 4 changes in a row (last night) so I'll let you know how long it takes. Ha Ha! I love to make a mess of things and turn easy in to catastrophic!

I have a quick question for any one. Do I assume that all the opportunities are non exclusive unless it actually says that it is exclusive in the opportunitu itself? I'm trying to figure out if I can submit the same song for many opps but didn't want to make any major goofs. Thanks:)

they should clearly state if they seek exclusive publishing rights. as this is a 1st come, 1st serve world, submit away as your budget might allow and if a provider comes along, wants to secure your submission, you can always withdraw from or decline other offers. hope that helps.

Hi Eric,
I have really just started with Broadjam and can you give me any kind of heads up on the opportunity that you and I were selected for, about 3 weeks ago? Do we know what company it is or anything about it or do we just wait for them to get in touch if we get a placement? Other license companies I am with have sent me contracts so I was just wondering how this works here on Broadjam. Thanks Eric!

Wow Earl..., sigh, catch my breath..., smoking sounds! I like how you put it all together and the drum sounds are amazing not to mention everything. Very interesting music and fresh sounding. I played jazz clubs for eons in my past and love jazz fusion- rock to experimental, but haven't really written anything myself in these genres. Bottom line..., I like what you have to say, musically!

Hi Yuri,
Mad skills-listened to many of your tracks and like what you are up to. :) You are across the board and I like your diversity. Great sounds and textures, cool vibe on the rock song, and finally love the piano work. I am a pianist as well..., and my heart always lies with my piano. Keep up the great work!

no, Prometheus is the new sci-fi film from Ridley "Alien" Scott...the big filmmaker...Gladiator, Kingdom Of Heaven, Blade Riunner, Thelma & Louise, and of course Alien which created the modern sci-fi genre...anyway, you've got some big sounds and would work in that genre...

Checked "Noisy Neighbors" on a whim, after seeing that Yuri had been listening to it. Very impressed, and enjoyed that very much. Listened to your other tunes as well. All extremely creative and thought they demonstrated a mastery of sounds, spaces and the good judgment about where to place them. Should be inspirational to other musicians in those genres, as well as general listeners who should be fascinated.

Thanks, I really appreciate your comments! I have really just started to submit with Broadjam so I don't have many pieces up. I am writing in a lot of genres from Epic orchestral to electronic grundge and everything in between. Wow Robert, completely love getting lost in your musical world. Your pieces are punchy but almost feel liquid, at the same time. I really enjoyed listening to your music and getting lost in your landscapes and textures. Tasty work.
Thanks! :)
