One of my songs made #1 the Folk-Rock Top Ten. Not sure how that happens exactly, but I'm happy about it anyway. My band is KIN and the song is I'm Not That Anymore.

Thanks so much for the great review of I'm Not That Anymore. Our drummer is still blushing over your praise of his percussive skills. You're a great lyricist. Poetic and atmospheric. Night Noises is the strangest most beautiful song I've ever heard. No rhyme but it works. Don't know how you did it. I'm going to listen to some of my old Leonard Cohen albums now. Thank you.

You are very welcome, Kin. I am thrilled that you have listened to Night Noises and that you like it. Very happy making - very. The composer and singer Dave Lefever is owed more than half the praise. I did not write that poem as a lyric, all the other songs were written as lyrics, but Dave liked it and wrote a melody for it. The spooky sounds are Dave's as well.

You are welcome, I'm sorry to have misheard 'that' for 'dead - but it made sort of sense.
enjoy Leonard Cohen - and do try a few more of mine. I'm going to listen to more of your music .too.

Thanks Luanne for reviewing On And On. I usually operate from a less is more starting point, but I appreciate your suggestion about more production value but...it is what it is I guess. Thanks again and I love your voice.

I really enjoyed reviewing your tune, "On And On" and look forward to checking out more of your music, which I'm sure is great.

Thanks so much for sending your comment and also for the kind words about my voice.

Thanks for reviewing Old Boys. You caught what we were shooting for ala the Band. We have a fiddle(my daughter) on a number of our tunes. Just not that one. I listened to a lot of your tunes. Your a terrific songwriter. Keep em coming.

Thanks for reviewing my song First Night. I was shooting for a Neil Youngish country feel and glad you picked up on it. Your a very accomplished songwriter and musician. I listened to and liked a lot of your stuff and especially the Mark Knopfler guitar sound on Gotta Do Something. Your kind of far away but if you weren't I'd be sitting in the front row at your gigs. Where are you located in California?

be told I'm really a rock and roller at heart. Thanks Donovan. I really like most of your stuff. Especially enjoyed Better Half, You Say It Better and Intoxicated. You're the real deal.

I lost the first half of my comment somehow. Thanks for reviewing 90 Days. I appreciated your comment about the length of the tune and the listening publics short attention span. Maybe I should get rid of a chorus or two.

Donovan Tucker posted over 30 days ago

Well, like I said, it depends on what you;re going for, its a cool song. Too long is a matter of tastes, I would have never told Paul McCartney Hey Jude was too long.

Hi Mitch,
Just reviewed First Night and thought the first line was "Last Night I Kicked her out", which put a strange twist on the song, something I commented on!! Now that I know the name of the writer I have been able to come here and check it out. I can only apologise for not making out the lyrics - put it down to old age!! At least it is not visible with the song but apologies nonetheless!

It's okay Bob, much worse things have happened to me in my long life. I can see how you might have thought it a twisted song after getting that first line wrong. As penance, maybe you could tell me what you think of my song "On and On". I don't think I mumbled any of those words. Thanks for the review anyway.

Bob Bentley posted over 30 days ago

Me too Mitch!
Penance has been paid, I've just listened to On and On and really enjoyed it. Now this is a compliment, not a criticism, I like the simplicity of the arrangement, it goes with the nature of the song and suits the it really well. There is a very comforting sentiment throughout and great harmonies just round off this track.
I also heard Halfway to Doolin which I also really enjoyed, being from Dublin myself. A very authentic sounding song which should keep those memories alive. Have a listen to Ireland's Eye when you have a mo, you might get some of the Irish atmosphere from it.

Thanks Bob. I totally took the comment about the simplicity of the arrangement on On and On as a complement. That was the whole idea for that one. Simple...less is more. I used to be in and Traditional celtic band here in Wisconsin and we got a chance to visit a number of years ago. Turned a poem I'd written about the visit into a song with my daughter on fiddle and nephew on whistle. Always brings back the memories. Thanks again. I'll have a listen to Ireland's Eye.

KIN posted over 30 days ago

I had a listen to Irish Eyes...oops I meant Irelands Eye. Liked atmosphere a lot. I've listened to and played a lot of irish traditional music and you may be stretching it a bit when you said the synth pipes sounded liked like real uilleann pipes. Not so much but they did sound fine with rest of the orchestration. A small gripe and over all you're a very talented musician and writer. I'll be checking in on you frequently on Broadjam. Keep on.

Bob Bentley posted over 30 days ago

Believe it or not Ireland's Eye was not a play on Irish Eyes, it's an island off Howth near Dublin which I used to visit a lot as a boy and it just seemed right. As for the Uilleann pipes, they are certainly a very complex sound but I agree to differ with you, I think it's a pretty good approximation. But then it doesn't really make much difference either way!!
(An Irish friend asked me to make a ring tone out of it and I put it on my own mobile, but forgot. I was in the local grocery store when I heard Ireland's Eye being played on the store sound system - or so I thought - and was wondering how come they'd got hold of it when the penny finally dropped. Yes, I missed the call!!)

Thank you for the kind compliments Mitch.
Bob

I saw you'll be playing at the Oneida Cty Fair. If my summer trips is delayed I just might get to catch you there but with my luck I'll be a month early. Millennial man is a cool tune!

Jeff,
Missed you at the Oneida County Fair in August. I've uploaded a few new tunes if you'd care to take a listen.

Chet Nichols posted over 30 days ago to KIN

Hey Mitch,

Hey, thanks for the nice review of my song, "My New Son". I had to laugh at you comment about a daughter. I don't know that 'Mrs. Nichols would or could I go for that. Then, again, there is always adoption or getting a new, younger Mrs. Nichols, which won't happen either. I love the one I have.

Oddly enough, you'd probably expect that as a new dad, you'd run home from the hospital after the birth and write a tune. We'll, in my case, I waited until we were done having kids. Having a second son, I wanted to break out a unique verse for him, too. One of my favorite lines in the song is;
"When I wonder how I'll love my children equally
I found the answer in their individuality".

Anyway, thanks for taking to time to review this song and best of luck with your music.

My Best,

Chet Nichols

That was also my favorite line from that song. I suspected maybe you weren't a new dad. Sometimes it takes a few years to get the proper perspective on things. I like a lot of your stuff. Keep up the good work.
