Hi Guys, I reviewed one of your songs and liked it so i came over to check out some of the rest of your stuff. You Guys are really good!, great songwriters. I'm impressed. As I have been on a journey of my own to make better recordings I think there's just one thing holding you back from big success, I hope you'll take this as constructive criticism and maybe it will help but I think you need to do some more research and education on your mastering EQ, The mixes are pretty good but the mastering mix needs a little help. I'm not a pro by any means but have been obsessing over my own mastering for like 2 years now and finally getting close to some good quality. Your stufff is a little boomy, from what I know there are certain frequencies that need to be pulled back and others that sound better to push, something about the 200 range that makes things boomy and too much 1k makes them hurt your ears, the 3-4k seems to add good high end clarity without hurting your ears, guitars sound good when you pump the 6-8 hundred range and off course kicks live down at 50 - 60 range, But anyway... I ramble. Look up some video tutorials on mastering EQ and try to remaster some of your stuff I'll bet you can make it sound a lot better, ooh yea, almost forgot, they need a little more compression too, tighten things up and keep from getting the dynamic distortion that your getting on the high volume parts. PEACE OUT BARRY

was going to follow you or connect but can't figure out how, where the hell is the button, great stuff, Keep up the good work, looks like you've been at this a while.

Hi Randall, I just wanted get get back to you on your comment, The reason I said I didn't think it was mastered is becuase of the volume, it seemed kinda low, when you master something, after its mixed down you basically tweek the overall EQ and add compression and bring the volume up to 0 , most digital mix downs are kinda low on volume, Try and experiment. Set your volume on your computer, with good headphones on, and listen to your song, then switch to a song on You Tube by a industry band, or switch to a song on your I Tunes from a disk, or switch to a song on my feed and listen at the same volume, don't change your volume settings, and see if they are the same volume or if your song seems much quieter, It also seems to be lacking a little bit of high end and compression which tightens things up a bit and makes all the parts seem to be equal in volume and dynamics. I did listen to your other song and the vocals on it are much louder and sound pretty finalized, I thought the music was kinda low compared to the vocals but that's just a mix preference. Hope this helps..Barry

I'm new to BJ so just learning as I go along too. It could have been The Juice or Get Down on It both amazing tracks but the more I listen to your songs it could be any one of them. All done so well, you sir have "The Funk" in you. I notice that you have your name only on the musical credits, are you playing everything? If you are, very impressive.

OOOH yea, Get Down on it, was made to be a retro funk thing and the Hot boogie Love is a retro Disco thing. There seems to be lots of requests for those on BJ so I made a few attempts. Thanks for the thumbs up.

Yes, they do have that 70's funk/Disco vibe to them, you obviously love that era of music. I do notice you have some heavier guitar stuff going on also, but only have good grooves going on. My compliments. We seem to like a lot of different style that we use in our tunes. Do you use real horns or computer/keyboard? I like how they sound.

dear Muriel, When reveiwing instrumental music please don't forget to check the N?A boxes on the two questions about vocals as leaving them blank brings the score down and they are NOT APPLICABLE. thank you and have a nice day.

Thanks Barry for your review and rating of my soundtrack In the Forest. You are correct. This was done for an opportunity which often times are familiar since thats what hey are looking for. I have started creating some that are no so common but still a bit familiar. How can one be original if all the ask for is the same?
i am glad you now and appreciate. Thanks again. :)

I hear you, Thats why I said sometimes thats what they want. I'm plenty guilty of making things for opps that are NOT at all in pursuit of my own original artistic vision. So I fully understand. I was just trying to think of some positive constructive advice. Your work is amazing I wold love to hear something like that piece but with your own original take on it. Just pushing the curve thats all. Thanks barry

Hi Barry, yes Mike Ell is the one I was thinking about. He did get in touch and as always "a man of few words" lol. He never asks for alternative mixes? I've noticed that he doesn't give second chances and doesn't like to be even slightly messed around. He has ignored me in the early days but I now know how to deal with him! If he's already got in contact with you then send him the details anyway! maybe forward me the email so I can look at it? I'm sure it is the same as my email I got from him as we were both selected!

Yea, just email me what you want and if you have an idea for content for any of the music that I can center my lyrics around just let me know.

will do, I want to remix a few things and pull out some leads so you can have a better idea of what they would be like to put vocals on, they're mixed as instrumentals right now so there's not much room for vocals but give me a few days and I'll send em your way. thanks again for considering the music.

I guys, made it over to listen, love it. Second chance 2 and doing the best I can, faves. Your newest song waiting for the sun doesn't seem to have as good a mix as the other two named. Its a vocal song and they sound great, but needs a little more drums or acoustic guitar or something up in the mix. just a little advice. I love the song and the vocals are amazing, the music seems a little buried. Keep up the good work and thanks for the visit. Barry

Hi David, just wanted to thank you again for the advice and inspiration you shared with me back in April. I'm not one of those empty talkers, I actually do what I say I will. I went back into the studio and have been working ever since. I ended up with like 40 new instrumentals and really expanded my beats and textures and moods thanks to your inspiration. I didn't listen to any of your music again after that so any resemblances are purely coincidental. I very mush like to pursue my own passions. anyway. I wish there was a way to highlight new songs on our song list here but don't see such a function. 4 songs that were inspired by listening to you are: "Cruising" "Broken", " Passion and Pride", and "Triumph and Defeat". The last one oddly enough could fit in the same sub genre as your vastest work. the Zeitgeist at work. and I too find the Broadjam description list wanting. Take care and thanks again. Barry Osbourn

You are welcome Barry! I never mind anyone being inspired/influenced by my work! Or borrowing the odd riff here and there! I take it as a compliment. You are probably unaware about the time I was working with Peter Gabriel (many years ago) and my friends phoned me and said "have you heard the latest Peter Gabriel album! It has quite a bit of your work in it!" They thought I would be upset but the opposite! If Someone like Peter Gabriel wants to nick parts of my work then it only validates my worth! I was a struggling musician at the time so it was a huge compliment! And I've never shut up about it since! I will listen to your new tracks shortly and give some feed back! But well done in writing all those tunes in such a short time!
