HI you do not know me but I am rather upset with you. Not because you did me wrong, but because you did yourself wrong. I just did a review for your song "Bozo's Clown Parade Minute", and the gist of what I told you was that it shouldn't be up for review because you shouldn't want that to be the first impression someone gets of your music. Read the review, I stand by everything I said in it. But my curiosity got the better of me, I had to check out your profile and see if you were jsut an idiot with a synthesizer or MIDI program. Well I just got done listening to "I'm that other guy", it was without a doubt one of the best songs I've heard on Broadjam and I added it to my Folk playlist. I was so upset that I had to write. I could have reviewed that great song, and instead I got bozo's parade. Please, for me, take a little time as soon as you get the chance to go through your playlist of songs and ask yourself if that song should really be in the review mechanism. You do yourself a disservice making people review the wrong songs. You got lucky this time with me, but most listeners are only going to give you one chance then move on. Wish you nothing but the best.

I do have one song "O Fortuna". I do have others in the works but my strength really lies more in lyrics than in the music or the performing of the lyrics so it takes me a long time for any one song to be completed because it takes me a long time till I feel like I have gotten something to be the best I can get it with my limited amount of talent.
Thanks for the review of my song 'O Fortuna'. It was something I had been working on for quite a while. Just wanted to let you know I am really not that dark a person. My song is actually a remake of a classical music piece by the same name. I am sure you have heard it before, it gets used in movies and tv all the time. The problem with the original was that it was in Latin. Various people have translated the piece before, but it was rudimentary. No one ever took the time to appreciate that Latin has 10's of thousands fewer words than the English language. So while others translated it literally, I translated it poetically trying to capture what the original writer intended. I did write the intro to give the song context because the song is part of a much larger work. You can YouTube the song and hear the original, I am sure you would recognize it immediately. Anyway, thanks again for the kind words and just wanted to let you know I was not some tragically gloomy Gus. In fact I am rather happy go lucky. Take Care!
Hello GA. Thanks for the explanation. Wow, that's really impressive to translate from the Latin poetically. One time when I was a spanish major at Michigan State Univ, I translated poetry from Spanish to English for one of my profs. It was challenging but I actually remember it turning out quite well. MK
I want you to know, that after taking a long break from listening to the song I recorded which you reviewed, I agree with you completely. The mix was a little restrained and could have had more punch. Not sure if that means I will ever go back and rework it, but you were absolutely right.

I am flattered that a man with your experience in music thinks so highly of the one song I have posted here. For me I think the best way to appreciate it is to listen to the classical piece 'O Fortuna', then listen to my piece and realize they are the same song, I just translated it. The difference between what I did and other translations is that I took the time to translate it by poetic meaning and added the whole lyrical intro to give it context. It took years to get that translation right. And the music wasn't much easier, I couldn't just transcribe notes from sheet music, I had to rework a couple things and add a couple things and kind of strip it down to get it where it is. I am not sure if it is my 100% best effort, I know there are things I could have done better, but it was a complete effort and in a way I like that it is only 95% as good as I could get it, makes it more human. Thanks for the review and your appreciation for what I did.
oh, and I went back and listened to it again for the first time in a long time since I finished, and I totally agree that my lyrics were too low and the backup was too high in the mix. Not sure if that means I will go back and rework it, but you were spot on with that advice.
O Fortuna: The gravely old voice is an incredible contrast to the silky instrumental and vocal background. Yet it blends wonderfully.

I did it because no one knows what the song really means because it is written in latin. Thanks again.

I wasn't sure if you could tell by what you wrote in the review but I didn't exactly write that song, I poetically translated it from the classical piece "O fortuna" that is used in so many movies and whatnot. (I found the existing translations lacking) I did what I could with limited ability and anxiety about doing vocals, so no worries I am not going to curse you out for not giving me 5's across the board. LOL

Hi Sam, Can I make a suggestion to you about something? You have 205 songs, and I am just some random guy who happened upon your home page here. You clearly have talent and know what you are doing based on what I heard. But you can't expect someone who comes across your page to listen to 205 songs hoping to accidentally find your best work. Maybe make a playlist of what you consider your best 5 or ten songs and make a note in your profile intro that it is there. You probably have songs that I would want to put in one of my playlists, but even if your songs were only 3 minutes, that would be ten hours of music I would have to go through to find them. You can't expect that kind of commitment from some random stranger. Please consider doing something to help people like me out. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks. Yours is actually the first comment I've received in over 14 years on Broadjam that truly is constructive and makes any sense! Actually, that's why I put some of my songs into collections as four albums. I intend to do that more as time goes by, but mentioning them in my in my profile would be helpful to others like you who might stumble on my site, for sure. Most of what I'm doing at this point is not for any career move, but rather just for the pure need and love to create music anyway. Pretty much everything on my site was done in my home studio, me playing most of the instruments and singing a good chunk of the vocals and/or backup vocals (not credited to other singers in the titles). I'm retired and done chasing that brass ring in the music industry, so I've decided, as a consequence, to write and record what I want, any way I want, without restrictions and/or dumbing it down. I now do that seven days a week and post when I think it might be worth putting it out there. The "experts" here in Nashville are what made me come to that decision, LOL, even though they don't know or care about it. Luckily, my legacy is not for them to control, haha! I realize that this might sound egotistical, but I've been listening to and making music for well almost six decades, most of that time, professionally, and I've learned to accept what appeals to me artistically, no matter the genre, first and foremost as long as I don't need the money. That may be why I don't have an outside publisher, agent or manager--I'm not here to make them money so they're not here to hear or push my music. I'm happy, but they say "Never say 'never'.", so I'm open to the probably remote possibilities. Here's hoping you either check out some of the albums I've already compiled or you'll have time to occasionally just "play all" from any starting point on my alphabetical song list and just turn it up and enjoy some of the contrasts if and when you have the time. I don't get it? Why are you r songs just 1 minute samplings of you performing? If you are worried about copyright infringement don't make the songs available for sale or buy the sheet music or contact someone here at the site and ask for advice. Not sure what you are hoping for with the one minute samples.

Well, do you still have the individual tracks that you can send me as .wav files? That is what I would need to work on it. I could give you an email address to send the files too. but if it is just one file of the finished track it would not let me have the flexibility to do what needs to be done so there would not be much point unless you have the tracks.

I just wanted to compliment you on the 6 pack of songs you posted. While I thought "My therapist says its your fault" and "rain on my parade" were the cream of the crop, they were all well performed and recorded. It really showed that you took the time and made the effort to dot all your i's and cross all your t's to make them the best you could. More people should make that kind of effort to put their best foot forward with each song they post on here. Please keep up the good work and do not fall into the trap here that so many do where they sacrifice quality just so the can say that have 200 songs posted. Quality wins over quantity every time on this site. Please don't ever forget that. Great job.

Thanks for your reviews of Samhain & Cheers. Samhain was listed as ambient because I honestly don' know what genre it is! It was written with Acoustic Guitar; my late husbands' work. The sound effects are all me with my Ensonique TS12. I wanted to 'catch' the sound of the two souls re-connecting. I'd be happy to do an acoustic version, you game? Now for "Cheers". It is a fun song but not one of the songs I've written that suits my voice! I'll work on it more, though. The sound you are referring to is a keyboard 'harmonica' & I'm not fond of it either, but I don't record the music, my co-writer does. After the holidays I'm sure we will find an alternative instrument. Happy Holidays! (I'm a Grinch, actually)
I could be convinced to mix something for you, but I do not play an instrument anymore, best I can do is add midi to something. That can pose some challenges when the recorded piece is done first since it can be tough to match tempos. As far as making "Samhain and Cheers" goes, you probably have enough there to remix it as acoustic. Do you still have all the individual tracks or do you only have the final mix?
All I have of Samhain is the backing track and I can't change it. I'll talk to Luciano my co-writer and see if he can't find a better sound for cheers after the holidays if not I happen to know a couple of banjo players or at least I know of their existence around here I wanted violin but that didn't work very well but a real harmonica would work too. Do you think it would sound better with a male vocal?

'Promises' 'Promises2Funk Acoustic' what you just heard and 'Promises2Funk" full version with the guitar, piano, bass and keyboard & drums. Seriously, what kind of meds are you on?
I did not accuse you of ripping someone off, I was pointing out that I had heard that song before and did not know what the deal was. Further how can I read the description of a song before I know what the song is? That is not how random reviews work and you know that. In fairness to you I went back and looked at the two reviews I just did for you. The first being "a Spiritual Journey". I don't know what review you read but I complimented the composition. I said the problem was all the instruments had the same tone. I stand by that statement, I double down on that statement. That song desperately needs a greater range in tones. Secondly "Promises2funk" I reread the review and stand by everything I said, most of which was I have heard this song before. Please give me advice on how I can give you great marks on originality if I have heard the song before and do not know whether it was your work I heard before or not? The biggest complaint I had with that song was I thought your guitar work was sloppy. I stand by that statement. You clearly can play the guitar. YOu can clearly play the guitar well. That was clearly not up to the standards you should set for yourself and I called you on it. Why? To make you better. I do not get any benefit from making you a better more careful musician who puts more effort into his recordings. Further, grow up and act like an adult. Not everyone who listens to your music is going to tell you its the greatest thing they ever heard. Grow up. When someone reviews your music, they are not part of some sinister plan to destroy your dreams, they are offering constructive criticism based on what they hear. Whether you choose to learn from a review or not learn from a review is up to you, but to throw a temper tantrum at someone who you do not know because you can't handle it is counterproductive. You need a little thicker skin. To put it into perspective for you. There are 7 billion people on the planet. If 1 million of those people really like your music and choose to buy your music that is considered a benchmark of success. So before you predetermine what people should think about your music before they hear your music, you should keep those numbers in mind and readjust what your ego is telling you. You have talent and I sincerely wish you all the best in your work, please use this as a learning experience.

I have ears and am not tone deaf so that qualifies me to determine what I think and feel about a song. What qualifications I have are listed on my profile if you cared. You must have looked at it hoping there would be a song there that you could rate poorly, but you clearly what was written on it. Further I am working on a song currently and will post it soon. It will not be the greatest song in the world, nor will it be the worst. But if you would like to keep checking back on my profile to see when I post it and then give it a poor rating out of spite, feel free you are welcome to do it, because after all I assume that is why you went to my profile since you did not read my profile.

I reread that review before listening to the new recording. Given what I said in that review, this was a gigantic improvement. The recording actually had a real good balance to it, the song came through pretty crisp and clean. Only two things that I did not like so much, but I did like the overall composition. First was that the electric guitar was very feedback heavy and gave you a background static that was almost always there. It didn't ruin the song by any means, but it did muddy the guitar a little. The second thing was a thought you over used the "echo effect" on the vocals, and at least once or twice you sang the echo effect without the need to overdub or add it in. You probably overused that a little, but it didn't ruin the song, it just started to lose its poignancy as it was occurring too many times too close together. Overall I liked it though, and you are definitely getting better at putting your mixes together without a doubt. especially if you could clean that one up so quickly. On a side note, now that I have heard about 6 or 7 songs from you at this pointI'd liek to point something out to you now that you seem to have a handle on your mixes. Stylistically you are kind of all over the place. You don't really have a genre or soudn that is your own yet. I mean I have heard just your vocals come across three or four different ways so far. In fact when your songs come up for review, most of the time I do not know its you. For most people I hear them once, and I can pick out their work most times going forward if I hear them again. So I would say your most pressing need right now, is you and your music making partners need to figure out what is your sound. Go through your stuff, see which stuff you think makes you all sound best, which stuff makes you all the happiest to play and perfrom and then try to stay inside that more narrow scope going forward. That way you can begin to create a true identity for yourselves.
A lot of these songs are songs I wrote a long time ago and I'm just now getting them recorded my niche lately seems to have taken a turn towards rock rap and I'm enjoying that pocket;
Not saying I'm a rapper but it's more of a Debbie Harry melodic talking which I enjoy!
Thanks again for another review! This time it was Oh Father.The song is focused on the feelings of a victim of cleric abuse. Locket & pocket...The lyric refers to loss of the dreams & innocence of the victim. Where are they? Did the priest put them in his pocket or a sacrificial locket? The word 'master' is monster. in truth who is the Father when the monster takes his place. I added that part as a bridge of sorts.
ah, that makes a little more sense then. Maybe my problem was I never made the clergy connection. Wondering what swapping out father to pastor might do to the song. And Monster definitely sounded like master to me, monster would definitely had made more sense.

I've tried since the early 90's to get a good version of this song that didn't go all out 'exorcist'. I like Luciano's production. It does need a good thrash guitar solo in the instrumental...know anyone who might be able to pull it off?
Hi Teri, I just got done reviewing your song "Imaginary Moment". I actually wrote a long review for it. When I was finished I was shocked to find out it was your song. I have done several reviews of your music so far, and the quality of this recording is so much better then the others I have heard. I am sure I am not always the person you want to see review your music, I don't grade on a curve and I point out flaws and don't sugar coat things, but that is also why I had to write you a follow up here to you personally. The quality I heard in the latest song was so much better then the previous recordings of yours that I had heard that I was literally shocked it was you. The mix and the balance of the tracks and the volumes were so much improved. I felt like there was so much more effort and thought put into not just the recording and mix, but also the arrangement and composition and lyrics. Whatever you did differently for this song you need to keep doing. The attention to detail made a remarkable difference. I am really happy to hear that from you. I always tell people on here. The goal should not be to post as many songs as possible. It should be to put your best foot forward with every song you post. A listener may only give you one shot to get their attention, so you have to treat each song like it is your one and only shot to gain a listener. You should go back and compare and contrast the songs or yours I have reviewed and take the time to identify what you did and did not do in comparison with this song so that you have a giant sign post that says, "Hey Teri! This way to making your best stuff!" While I am here, I noticed your question about "radio quality" recordings. I can answer this for you. You can't do it yourself. Mixing and editting is what I am best at, and I can't do it. It is a process called "Mastering". Only someone who is a true blue, formally educated, no holds barred sound engineer can do it. Where I am from it would probably run you 100 to 200 a song to have it done. Years ago I produced for a friend who was a good songwriter but average musician and sub average singer. I got tired of other peopel making fun of him so I helped him. I was naturally better at mixing and could help him edit himself to make smarter decisions. Truthfully though, I was making it up as I went along, like most people on here. That is how I learned to mix, by trying to make someone not good sound better, and by trying to edit someone who resisted editting himself as if his life depended on it. The point is one of his songs we had mastered by a professional. I can tell you for certain that I have no idea what the guy did to master the song, but I can also know for sure it sounded different. It was subtle and I have no idea what it was, but it was different. If I were to get a song mastered again in the future, this is what I would do. So if you think you have a song that is radio worthy this is what I recommend you doing. First edit the snot out of it. If there is even one thing in the song you don't like, fix it first. If there is one note, one awkward change, one word in one lyric you're not a fan of fix it, no matter how long it takes to get it right. The second thing is I would not give the masterer a single track to work from. I would give them all the individual tracks. I would pay the money to have them do the final mix and final balancing and volumes and everything. I wouldn't add reverb or EQ work or anything, I would just give them all the raw tracks. But I would also give them a finished track where I had done all that work as well, so that whoever was doing the Mastering knew the sound I was aiming for. Short of that, all you can do is all any of us can do. Continue to learn and grow and try to put your best foot forward, and produce the best recording you can, so that a lsitener can have the best experience you can possibly give them. The sad truth is you probably can't get a song on the radio no matter how good the song or the recording. Everybody remember's Kanye West going on that rant in his concert and people saying he went nuts. The truth is he was ranting about real things. There are almost no independent radio stations left, they are almost all a part of a conglomerate of stations owned by one big company. And big music labels pay them to play their songs. The label gets ASCAP fees kicked back to them because their song was played on the radio, but that money is just used to help mitigate some of the costs they spent getting the song played on the radio so much, because they make their real money from selling songs and selling concerts so paying radio to play songs from an album is considered advertising for them. This would be really depressing if not for the fact that astute music listeners don't get their music from radio because they know that game is being played. More music is being enjoyed digitally now, whether on phones or ipods or podcasts etc. So you don't really need your music to be "radio quality" what you need is your music to be of a "good enough" recording quality for digital users to listen to enjoy, to buy, to share with friends, to put on their podcast. It is almost a certainty that you would have to succeed in those venues before you could ever hope to get considered for radio air time. it's just reality. I hope you found this useful and helpful.

Hi, you just gave a laughable review on my song "My Darkest Hour" You might wanna update your equipment that you're listening to music on, because this song has won several awards has been professionally recorded, it has been played on several radio stations around the world and was also selected for a movie soundtrack. Also has held the #1 spots on the Broadjam Top 10 Earth, Rock, Hard Rock and Rock-Progressive. All with raving reviews. But there is always a sour apple in the bunch, so what ever, but of course you're entitle not your warped opinion...lol. Thanks for the laugh!
I was surprised to hear your comment, so I went back and re-listened and re-read the review I gave you. Since yours was the very last review I did I remembered what I heard pretty well. After checking I can honestly say I do not know what happened, but I can say what I heard this morning was not the same as I heard yesterday morning. I am listening with the same equipment so I do not know if it is an equipment issue or if there was a playback issue because of broadjam or the internet. I stand by what I said about it starting too abruptly and that the drums would benefit from more attention to them, and that I did not particularly like the ending, but I never viewed those things as glaring flaws to begin with. What I said about the lyrics doesn't hold up though. What I heard today and what I heard yesterday is not the same. I am not sure I can explain it, my equipment seems to be working fine. I can only think of two possibilities, either it was a playback issue with broadjam, or it was an internet connection issue with my neighborhood. While I live in the city, my little section of the city can get bombarded by internet traffic at times when everyone is on at the same time, and that can hurt and hamper the quality of my connection. Think everyone wanting to check their fantasy football team, every child wanting to play online gaming, and everyone else connected all at once bogging everyone down. I really don't know what to tell you, I can only give you a review based on what I hear. All I know for sure is the sound quality this morning is certainly different then yesterday morning. I had been considering getting new headphones, but again, they seem to be in fine working order right now. I am sorry if you thought I was just some random guy being an asshole for no reason. I can only go by what I hear when I hear it. I can say that I liked the song much more now that I can hear the lyrics and would have given you better marks for sure. I can tell you that I take complaints about a review very seriously and that you were right. What would you like me to do about? Does it matter that much to you for me to contact broadjam and tell them to take down the review because I clearly had some technical issue that biased the review? Let me know I'd be glad to do it.

I'm not worried about it making the charts again. It's an old song and it had its day in the sun. Well I am glad there are no hard feelings, and the frustration you expressed in your original comment was more then understandable so don't sweat it at all. I am going to go out and get new headphones, probably do it today now because of you, so thank you. It could have been something as stupid as my jack not being all the way seated, but I don't want to take that chance. Especially since I am working on a song (my first in ten years) and I would hate to get the mix wrong cause my phones might have an issue. I originally only wanted to replace them cause the foam was a little wore out and my ears are sensitive to the touch because I was a high school wrestler. As for taking the time to go back and re-listen to your song, I do that for anyone who complains. The way I see it if I am going to do reviews then I should be more then willing to double check my work if they disagree. This was a first for me, you weren't complaining because you were delusional or hypersensitive, you had a legit gripe. That's why I am here, to find good music. I got disgusted with the crap that commercial music puts out so I went indie and came back here. I find a good song I add it to my playlists. After spending some time here reviewing songs again I realized I missed doing reviews and more importantly I missed producing music. It inspired me to start making music again. I hope to be able to publish my first new work in a week or two. I am already a month in on the song, to give you an idea of how much time I put into a recording.
