Hi Nat

Thanks for your consideration!

I've been busy full time with my real job (website design). Too bad we have to make money sometime! I don't think I will participate to this year's 6-pack. Nothing new in music.

Best of luck to you too!

CRAZY!! Just found out that my song Life's Passage was the #1 instrumental category winner for 2012 in the Song Of The Year contest! What an honor to have a song selected like that! http://www.songoftheyear.com/winners_2012d.htm 1 Aside from the prize the song with my bio will be sent on to top music supervisors and industry reps. Pretty excited to find out what might be behind door #487 :)! I'll keep everyone posted with the news!

So, quick update on the searchlight contest. First off, a huge thanks to everyone who showed their support. It meant a lot to have so many of you voting and writing to me about the contest.. I didn't make the top 5 but I'm pretty sure it wasn't on the merit of the song :)! It was a popularity contest and he who has the biggest fan base is he who progresses! We'll get em next time :)!

You're right on! Nathan! That's why I don't put to much effort in thise type of contest. It doesn't really give insight of the true value of the songs. It become a matter of fanbase or follow up!

I rellay prefer contest where the value of the song is evaluated by professionals or at least by musicians. The Broadjam's 6-pack is a model in this field with it's blind vote.

Hi Nathan

I just listened to you last collab and I find it very well done! Nice climbing mostly of the voice intensity. I also love the violin section which adds a very nice color to the whole.

Can I ask you, aside from the violin and voice, what else are you responsible for? Have you realized the entire arrangement?

Very nice indeed and a cool idea the major chord at the end!

Thanks Lansig! My first love in music is the fiddle. Oddly enough I never heard any Celtic music until I was about 14. I heard Natalie Macmasters playing at a Canada Day celebration and fell in love with the instrument and music from then on. Since then I've played fiddle on and off for many years. I've had the chance to sit in on masters classes with some of Canada's top fiddlers (Mairi Rankin, Troy Magillivray, Karrnnel Sawitsky)! Yes, I wrote those tunes and play all the fiddle in the songs. I still have plans off writing and recording a full length album of Celtic pieces..... Not enough hours in the day. Thanks for your thoughts . It would be awesome to do a piece together sometime.

moon circus is a awesome composition. the violin is so haunting. and the guitar chord choices and runs are excellent. but the one i heard judging the top 20 6pack was just a acoustic rhythm switching between two chords a half step apart. and the violin player was playing like a madman. but looking for it i heard all of your songs. what a great collection. surely other guitar players will love.

Author

I had several songs entered, but the one that got the award was In My Own Way. There was no prize as I wasn't the finalist, but the way it was worded was "The 'Runner Up' placement shows that your song received extremely high scores and was found to be competitive with the winning songs. Only the top writers receive this placement. "
So, not in the money, but a rather nice endorsement from the big boys :)! December is going to be exciting between having songs In UKSC, John Lennon Song writing contest, and Broadjam..... Cloud 9 right now :)!

one never leaves - before my marriage to Helene, we spent several weeks in the northern part of the provence. her grandfather had a marvelous farm where we stayed some days. one morning I was ushered into the kitchen where Grand Pere Dion was sitting in a chair. with a smile on his face, he handed me his straight razor, shaving cup and brush.

not something you forget - I lathered his chin and neck, gave the blade a ride upon the sharpening belt, and with his eyes looking into mine, proceeded top shave the grand pere. I was scared shitless and so very proud that he trusted me. not a nick or cut once I was done. took a warm towel to wipe off his face and he gave me a nod.

we all then sat at the farm table to enjoy fresh baked bread laden with heavy cream and maple syrup.

no, I haven't left - je me souviens

was married at the oldest church within the provence, within North America. married with an amazing family. Helene Dion of Quebec City was (and shall always remain) my bride. our reception was in the Chateau Du Frontenac. we spent many weeks before that day so that the family and I could get to know one another.

one week, we ventured into the northern part of the provence to visit her grandfather's farm. it was the first morning after our arrival that I was ushered into the kitchen. there was grand pere sitting in a chair with a smile in eyes and towel wrapped about his neck.

I was given a lathering brush, soap cup and his straight razor with very simple instructions, grand pere wishes you to shave him this morning.

when a person smiles with such warmth and confidence, I felt no reason to fear, even though I had never before held a straight razor in my hand, let alone shaved another being.

he just smiled at me, looked me in the eye and gave me a nod. so, I lathered his leathered skin and proceeded to accept that honor. not a nick, not a cut, no blood. and, I felt so light headed with pride.

the kitchen table exploded with laughter, strong coffee was poured, and we enjoyed fresh baked bread smothered in heavy cream with maple syrup.

no, I never left. je me souviens - a part of my heart remains in that kitchen in the northern heart of the Quebec provence.

thank you for stirring up that piece of my heart.

please, teach me how to express that very first day in the language, in the heritage they shared with me.

grand pere pulled me away from the gaggle of famile so we could walk the property. many will never understand this, but what happened next shall always be a testimony to how we all belong.

walking down the that path, grand pere would point to an object, perhaps a blade of grass, a tree, a bird, the sky, the sun. all this was in francais. in turn, I would share my tongue, my englais of those characters with him.

it wasn't long before grand pere and I were conversing without hesitation nor need of interpretation. so quickly, and without any embarrassment, we spoke of life and why I loved my Helene. it was that next morning, (after the shave), that he gave me his approval.

how does that happen? simple - we spoke from the heart and with all good intent. the heart does not lie. the heart is the truth that binds us all. that was the day before grand pere granted me permission to provide his morning shave. (never, ever forget who grants us their trust).

venture into the beauty of language.

here is the weakness of my heart, I desire to find Helene. not to re-capture her love, just to know she is well. does she have sons and daughters? how is the family Dion? what of the brothers Benoit, Claude and Jean? it is my shame that all these shall pass when they still remain in my thoughts.

Thank YOU, Thierry. Thank YOU, Lansig. trust is our worth and bond for life. thank you for knowing the truth of how we live. my blessings to you and yours.
