Sweet song guys, "Everything Is Perfect"; almost a George Harrison-esque quality about it and was hoping the story line turned out that way:-) Great work on your long distance collaboration!

Hi Andy! Thanks for such a favorable review of our song "Cannot Love You". I'll look into that rumbly low end thing and see if I can notch or roll off the lows causing that! Appreciate good ears and suggestions! Bothsidesmusic

Thank you so much, Kelly & Daniel; really appreciate you taking the time to listen to some tunes. I just enjoyed your "Small and Useless Things" and "Cannot Love You"; the former having great lyrics and feel, and the later, although I did not understand the beautiful foreign lyrics, the emotion said it all. Hope the distance between you guys only increases your creativity, and the very best to you both in your musical endeavors!

Thank you Cyndi for the friend connection and adding our song Cannot Love You to a playlist. I just added the lyrics to the song so now you can see (in translation) what the song is about. Kelly aka Bothsidesmusic!

Beautifully haunting lyrics; succinctly says so much with so few words, and Ms Shaitarova's delivery is sweetly sad and delicious. Thanks so much Kelly for posting & for your connection!

Thank you so much! I love working with real musicians and I think an astonishing number of musical geniuses lives in the Bay. It's been my great, great good fortune to be able to work with some of them. Not a dud in the bunch.

We have a new song up. Our first song done on two continents! This is exciting for us as this will be our new mode of creating for the time being while Daniel does his time in Russia!

The song is called Small and Useless Things. Acoustic, personal, simple.

So we re-edited Cannot Love You in order to get to the chorus sooner. We like the re-do and have put it up in its new form and hoping to submit it to one of the Russian opportunities.

Both Sides Music is now undergoing a dramatic revision as what was once started as two guys living across the street from each other is now going to be two guys living on two different continents of the world! No biggie. We never recorded together, not even once! We always did our own tracks from our studios across the street from each other! So what's a little distance, like thousands of miles? We will be posting some new songs shortly and can't wait to get this thing running again. Now we are truly Both Sides Music, as in both sides of the world! Me (Kelly) here in The States, and Daniel in Russia!

Thanks Mannis for the review of Funky Morning Coffee! This one just kind of evolved on its own. Ended up being a conversation between the guitar and quinto drum kind of like a Cuban Rumba where the quinto interacts with the singer. The song was created with background track as it's eventual purpose so we intentionally kept it low-key and not too disruptive in order to be useful for programmers. Good luck on your projects and congrats!

Hey thanks for the review of Get to Know You (no vox)! Interesting that you find it not so much Indie. We wrote this one (originally with vocals) for a Broadjam listing looking for a Black Keys vibe. We thought we'd nailed a pretty decent imitation. Provider apparently unimpressed! Love my floor tom on this song. Used a Shure Beta 52 to capture the thundering lows. Also moved away from my DW's and used my Ludwig Vistaliltes (Bonham-style!) with a massive 24" kick and 13" rack mount along with my two largest Zildjian Z custom 18" and 19" rock crashes. I was extremely happy with the overall drum sound. This song makes me happy. Love it's drive and feel. Love the dirty gritty guitar. A very in-your-face powerful song in my opinion! Wish us luck. I think this one will find a provider willing to use it. And now it's time to take a listen to some of your music. Thanks again. BSM

Thanks for your review of Funky Morning Coffee. You're right about it not really being more than a concept piece, meant more for background than a stand-alone piece. We work in both worlds, the completed song idea with lyrics and vocals, and the ambient fun soundtrack idea works. Check out more of our tunes, for sure! Listened to a few of your songs. Pretty funky. Sounds good. Good luck! BSM

Dear BSM, thanks for your review of Downtime. You should have heard it before I produced it! It sounded like really C movie quality cop music. At one time I had produced a more FOTF dance beat, but we changed it again, this time to real drums. I thought it made it sound more 80's again too. But that is that song, so leave it at that. I might talk to Lucius about doing another mix with the dance beat back in, because it did sound more modern. Cheers - Mitchell P

Sorry you didn't enjoy my song Screaming G. You seem to be the only one that doesn't get it. It's a moody guitar solo. It was #1 in Rock-Gothic for months. Thanks for your straight forward review though.

Ah man, please don't misunderstand! I thought the guitar work was stellar; I was just offering my reactions and thoughts since the reviewing system offered up a song, cold. My expectation was a "song", not a "solo", per se. Context is everything!

Anyway, I really look forward to checking out more of your work and hearing your chops, and congrats on the #1! Do you mind if I ask if it led to any placements? I am curious how this whole thing works.

Thanks for understanding my comments. I'm really trying not to be negative, by trying to be constructive.

I do appreciate the constructive comments. I welcome them. I don't think there was any misunderstanding. But, it was strickly a solo piece. (Take Van Halen's Eruption for an example. Not saying my song is anywhere as stellar as Eddy's) but you killed me on the ratings. And that's your right also if your feel it was deserving. No hard feelings.

I actually didn't expect much from it in the first place. The background ("Scream") was composed seperately for a movie soundtrack called ReDracula. I added the guitar on top just for the fun of it, not for anything but to see how I could improv to a moody/ scary sounding background that has absolutly no melodic key or functionality to it and make it fit the bill. Surprisingly, most people have liked it.

Author

Sweet. Understand now. Thanks for the background info on the song. Interesting to learn about it, and the context helps.

Incidentally, I listened to My Darkest Hour, and I like it a lot. It's more of that "song" thing that I was expecting with Screaming G. And great guitar work, as always.

OMG, I'm leaving this backwoods, bovine, inbred, bucktooth, hillbilly state of Idaho. They've taken my license and thrown me in jail. I know when I'm not wanted. I think it's my long hair that sets them off. This is the head-noddin' crowd. I've been up and down this state for 7 years. The natives used to be pleasant until the mass influx of residents, now they have the 'indignant' spark that kills so many reputations of nice towns and states.

I'm going to a familiar stomping ground in Northern California. Red Bluff(near Redding). Full of $h!t kickers there too, but at least they've seen long hair before. I'll die before i'm forced to wear a John Deere hat and chaw of tabacca'. So, I'm getting out now. Besides, do I really want to be known for potatoes? Like the Beach Boys sing, I wish they all could be California Girls.(and I got some friends there that can help me with my music!)

Should leave in about two weeks. Wish me luck! Can't wait to get my cannibis medical card. Ha!

Thanks guys! I'm jonesing to get started tracking. have to go back up 300 miles north out of Boise to Moscow to get my gear and then 750 miles out to pure sunshine. I just need a place that I can shoot my mouth off at and because there's overcrowding in the jails there, I'm almost guaranteed early release!

Spent a long part of my childhood in Redding. I know Red Bluff. I'm sure you're well aware of the heat, right? I don't know how much of a cultural upgrade it is from Idaho...but it is California. Pretty redneck area. Watch out for methheads...unfortunately, it's rampant up there. Try to get down to the Bay Area if you really want to find musicians...them's just my two cents' worth. Good luck to you.

Thanks Manu/BSM, actually grew up in N. Cali up by Dunsmuir/Castella/Mt. Shasta and then Redding/Red Bluff. I'm a mountain kind of guy, but I have this area in my blood, so making stupid statements like "I'll never go back to that f$@&ing state again" were just dumb. I do like the Rodeo here. And I can be fairly partial to cowgirls. But it is a small town and you get that gossip and threats of ass whoopin's for talking smack here. I'm in with friends and getting settled so in a few months, i'll be able to edge out an area for a small studio and get back to the business of shred.

As a pothead, I really don't mess around with anything else, but being as i'm federally regulated for class a driving this last 12 years... it's really put a cramp in my groove. That's the goverment for ya, always getting in the way of your fun. Oh well, gonna stay at home for awhile and get my Cannibis card(I wasn't kidding about that)... and enjoy life!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi thanks for a VERY thoughtful review of "One Nation Under a Fool." That one's just for fun, I don't even have the original separate tracks anymore. The drums are a sample from a Jimmy McGriff tune. Funky drummers like that don't grow on trees...
