Hello Frank, thanks for the nice review on Hot Boiled Peanuts. Can you give me a comment on what you think about CD baby vs. Tunecore, and are you using both, and if so, how does that work? Thanks, Mrs Kate

I was using both but now just CD baby. Tune core wants money each year to host and CD baby does not. Just the one time fee to get my songs on every site that sells music. Each company has different offerings all the time so it's best to check every now and then and choose one. They both really do the same thing, one will just do it for less money or have better offerings. Hope this helps.

Hello Frank, I am a fellow BJ artist trying to figure out if there is a serious flaw in the Broadjam Review mechanism. I consistently try to review Unique Children because that is my genre. In the last few months, whenever I try to review in that genre I get the message "no songs available" in that genre. I am looking at the top ten list (congrats on making it) and I see your song and several others that I have never had a chance to review. I asked BJ about this and he said that possibly the songs listed are not up for review. I thought that was really strange. So I am asking you...is It's a Happy Day up for review? Please reply. Maybe I have reviewed it and just forgot...but I don't think so. Please help me figure this out. Thanks! Mrs. Kate, another kids artist.

They are probably right. I have not had much time to do reviews and I think you need a bout 10 before some one can review mine. I have another I hope to have up soon. Also i would be happy to send them direct to you as I would love to hear your thoughts and more of yours. I'm about fed up with grown up music and really thinkin I need to go full time with the kids stuff.

Great news! One of Franks old country songs from 1995 called Dancin' in the Country is perfromed by the Truesdells in the new soon to be released Zac Efron/Dennis Quaid film - At Any Price. Don't give up on the old songs gang. You never know what someone is looking for.

Julianne and Chris, Open has a beautiful melody, nice verses but why the repeat of ,And the door to your heart open, like you did? I get beat up NSAI and by pro writers when ever I did that, stating, can't you think of something else to say? And, name one song that ever did that in the top 100 country songs. Did Kim Copeland ever suggest to write a new line before you spent your hard earned dollar on this great sounding demo? I'm not being mean here guys, I just really need to know so I don't make future mistakes in my writing and choice of demo companies.
I spend 300 to 375 at railroad trax productions per song. How much was KC? Maybe I need to step up or just write better lyrics. thanks, Frank

Frank,
No offense taken and I really appreciate your compliments. Offhand, I can't think of any song that did that, but it doesn't mean it's never been done. We repeated it because it was the hook, and just felt right. Listen, I drive my wife nuts all the time because I'm constantly in writing/critique mode listening to any song that's playing, and I'm the first to call foul when a rule is broken. "Hey, they repeated the first verse as the second verse." Or "Hey, you can't rhyme a word with the same word." What I've learned is that, though there are many rules, in the end much of it is subjective because you can't account for that elusive X factor. Regarding the Kim Copeland demo, it was part of a prize package for winning the Songsinc Track2Song contest, and the experience was amazing. Kim heard some things differently with regards to the production and she asked if we wouldn't mind if she went with them, so we were more than thrilled to get her take on that aspect. There wasn't any discussion regarding the lyric, and it felt right when we did it, so I don't have an answer on that. As far as I'm concerned, you can't make a mistake going to Kim, she was fantastic, but she, and studios like hers, produces countless demos a month. If they got bogged down in helping you polish your writing, it would only slow their own business down. I don't know that it's a demo companies place to do that. Also, for years we were only doing acoustic recordings because we couldn't afford professional demos, until we found songsinc a few years back. I highly recommend you check them out, it's completely advanced our game exponentially.

I listened to your stuff, and it's killer. You've obviously put in your time. Get some more songs up there, they sound great. I just try to keep learning, keep writing, and try to remember that my best material is in front of me. We'll all continue to get slammed in the critiques, but that's part of the learning process. Down in Nashville I heard someone say "If you haven't written crap, you haven't written." Keep moving forward. All the best.
Chris

Chris,

Thanks for grtting back so quick and the nice comments on my songs. I will check out songsinc and KC productions.
There is every acception to the rules and one writer with courage is a majority!
I usually write my own music but have a new song with none. Would you be interested in a co-write or at least take a look,If you don't hear a melody by the time you are done reading the words, just pass on it. Thats the way I do it anyway. Keep up the great work. Lets keep in touch. fp

Frank,
I'm flattered for the writing offer. I'd be happy to take a look, but to be, ...er, frank, I've written the same way for 14 years, sitting in a room with Julie and my hammered Martin. I'm not sure my brain is programmed for writing long distance, without that immediate give & take, ideas being tossed about, you know? So I may be useless, but sure I'd give it a shot.

I didn't think I could either until I actually read some lyrics from a writer in the UK and I could hear a melody of the chorus in my head as as read them. Once I got the chorus wrote the verses came eazy. Kind of fun and pulls you outside the comfort zone. really helped my writers block. My song true You is an example of that. see http://www.broadjam.com/banjoman1961. 1
I have 2 accounts and i am trying to get them to get rid of the other but I don't think they know how without killing them both so I might leave it alone for now. Do you have a reg email address I can send the lyrics to? Thanks fp
