Wow, do I feel like a fool, LOL. Seems I didn't realise that I read my own comment when I googled Teresa and was led to your page. LOL again. I have made full circle and corresponded with myself online. Sorry, This is still funny to me. Anyway, I am still glad to remain intouch with you. I have enjoyed your music here on Broadjam, and hope we remain in touch. Talk about being caught in a warp in cyberspace.

Hello Kenneth, I was searching randomly for information on a dear friend, and teacher of mine Teresa Garbulinska, and I was led to your page. Interestingly, we have corresponded with one another before. I just wanted to say hello, and keep in touch. Please let me know what you know of Teresa, she is a dear friend and it is such a rare moment to find others who know of her. Thanks, John

In the word of Donovan:
Little pebble upon the sand
Now you're lying here in my hand,
How many years have you been here ?
Little human upon the sand
>From where I'm lying here in your hand,
You to me are but a passing breeze.
The sun will always shine where you stand
Depending in which land
You may find yourself.
Now you have my blessing, go your way.
Happiness runs in a circular motion
Thought is like a little boat upon the sea.
Everybody is a part of everything anyway,
You can have everything if you let yourself be.
Happiness runs, happiness runs.
Happiness runs in a circular motion

Hello Robert, Thanks for your review of Cosmogenesis. Each time it gets reviewed, I can look at a different layer of the piece. I made this using very old techniques, on very old instruments, and not much to produce music with. I played live off of delays mostly with this, and had an old Moog running an lfo with filter, which does run through the piece a bit too long. I played this piece live mostly playing repetitive sequence patterns on keyboard, without a proper sequencer, I switched between delays which would get out of sync sometimes, but worked well playing live. I also used an old Casio SK1 processed through ring modulator for part of the layering. Primitive, but all I had at the time. Maybe this piece has run its course, seen better days. Anyway, thanks for honest review.

Hello Sankey, Thanks for reviewing another one of my pieces, Geometric Dreams..., Although I don't necessarily agree with all of your opinions regarding this piece, I do see some of where you are coming from, and I appreciate your honesty. I do see where this piece doesn't go far as a composition, and I must admit, not too much time was put into it as a composition, but rather to demo the sound of this particular synth. Because I often work as a sound designer, more attention gets paid to the timbre, and texture of something, than it does traditional composition. When I focus on both elements, the music ends up more complete. I have been away from music for awhile until a couple of months ago, and was in production, so I am a bit rusty. Thanks to getting feedback, I am making headway again.

Hello Hans, Thanks for your review of my piece Cosmogenesis. Your review is very thorough, and useful. I created this piece nearly 20 years ago on some rather primitive gear, and it became the title cut of my album of the same title. Much of the music I created at that time came out of a rather dark period in my life, so the music probably reflects that. I often played renditions of this piece for planetarium concerts. It is a rather complex process though because I had no computer, or sequencer to speak of. I used a lot of playing live with delay, and heavily processed sounds from Casio SK1 through ring modulator, and use of LFO in a Moog Sonic Six synth, my first synth that I bought in 1976. Anyway, Thanks for such a thorough review. Very helpful.

You're welcome for the review, and I'm glad it may have helped...the story of the creation of this piece is pretty amazing! It brought back memories, and a vocabulary which I haven't heard in years...ring modulators, ARP synthesizers, the SK1! I would love to fiddle around in your studio for an afternoon...It's a little tricky trying to identify which gear created which sound, but I'll have another listen - now that I have the background. Good to hear from you, Spacesongs! (will address you by name once I figure out what it is). HANS.

Greetings Kenneth I appreciate your review of my piece "Trudi" for solo piano. At first I was a bit defensive but then after listening to the song again, I see what you mean. A little too much reverb on the piano. Mastering engineer on that one, and a little heavy on the pedal, my fault. Ken, Thanks for your reply. You gave an honest review, and I find that sort of thing priceless, especially when it comes from someone who knows their craft. Music is sometimes such a personal thing, that there is a tendency to get defensive at the slightest criticism, but honest criticism is such a valuable tool when it comes from the right place, as yours does. I respect your background, and know it is not patting your own back. Nothing wrong with letting others know what you do. One of my teachers was Teresa Garbulinska, and was a student of Artur Rubenstein, and Kruchev's private pianist for ten years. I have had music featured in the movie Vanilla Sky, and I am not afraid to talk about it a little. I earned it. Not patting myself on the back here either, just stating things as they are.
Again, Ken, I thank you for your review. It helps me become a better musician when I get feedback from other musicians like yourself. Keep up the good work, and keep in touch.
Thanks,
John

Cool! I saw Rubinstein perform in person. Guy with small hands; he was amazing! I just installed Alicia Keys Piano (Kontakt version). Sounds terrific. If you like, I would be willing to run your piece 'Trudi' through it and get an audio sound file and convert it to MP3 @192. Should be small enough to email back. That is, if you have a MIDI version available and would like me to do it. I am going to remaster my Sonata with this synth. I'll have to use the original MIDI also because I can't play the d@#$ thing now! Let it get cold. Don't know Teresa Garbulinska and if you had music used in Vanilla Sky, you definitely earned bragging rights! We should definitely stay in touch and share new music when we get around to posting it.

Ken, Good hearing back from you. I don't have a midi version of Trudi, I played that piece on a Bluthner grand that was given to me by Trudi Straus, the namesake of the piece, but I could probably play it into a midi file sometime, once I get a few other things lined out. I do appreciate the offer though. I would love to hear a remaster of your sonata. I recorded Trudi, and a number of other pieces on my album Conversing With A Rainy Night about ten or so years ago, and don't play them much as I have kids, life etc to keep me busy. Please stay in touch, and good luck with all you do. You have a good thing going.

Greetings Sankey,
Thanks for your review of Cosmogenesis. I appreciate your honesty, and you are right, this, by today's standard is no great work. Just to give you a little back story on the piece. I created this piece using a Moog Sonic Six, a casio SK1, A Roland MKS80, and an old Roland kbd, all processed with delay, and some reverb, multitracked on an analogue 8trk reel to reel. I had no sequencer, or computer of any sort. I know it is of no real consequence, but I held down sequencer parts for years playing electronic music in live concerts with no sequencer at all. I am also a percussionist, so rhythmic parts come easily to me. Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight on this. I do appreciate your review, and you are right, it is quite easy to program sequences such as this. I admit, I do it quite a bit these days with computer sequencing, but I still love to go on stage with no sequencer, and just play a piece like this, playing off other players, or a delay , or even with a couple of tape decks spaced just the right distance from one another.
Again, I appreciate the review, and hope you will keep in touch from time to time.
Take care,
John Rose

On behalf of daughter Brooke, we thank you for a very good and accurate review of her performance of Menotti's "Monica's Waltz"....
Yes, Brooke is a gem of a vocalist, we feel in a class of her own!

Additionally she was voted top vocalist at the school four years running as well as the best overall musician!
She is in the Masters program currently and partly due to my jazz background is extremely comfortable performing Ellington,Strayhorn, and other jazz masterworks alongside the entire classical repetoire.....I plan on having a listen to your wife asap........would you have any leads for summer stock anywhere?

I am going to get some of my wife's material uploaded soon. Until then, you can hear her in a choral group at this address. http://www.lexbach.org/index.html Here you can hear a few samples but not much solo work. Her name is Diane Timmons Rose. If I hear of any good leads, I will pass the word along. In the meantime, all the best to you.

So good to hear from you Dan. Sometimes it is hard to define my line of work, as I have held a number of positions over the course of my working life. I have always held steady work to pay the bills, and support my family, but my life work has never provided too much in the way of material wealth. Following a series of traumatic events that began with the brutal murder of my best friend and his family when I was 14 years old, I endeavoured to understand the nature of life, death, and whatever lies beyond the realm of understanding. I am currently writing a book on dear death experiences, and mystical experiences.

I began playing music as a way to express what couldn't be expressed in words, and in the process, ended up working with people with psychological, and physical/neurological issues such as autism, multiple personality disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, etc. I have been fortunate to know some truly remarkable people over the course of my life.

I currently work as an audio engineer, and stagehand, along with playing, and recording music whenever I can. I have a family which is most important. Other things I have a deep interest in are wilderness awareness, and survival. I teach classes to both adults, and children on how to survive in the wilderness. Along with this, I serve as a volunteer with a search and rescue team here in Kentucky. My life is rich and full, and I am blessed with remarkable people, and experiences. I battle with post traumatic stress disorder myself so there are bad days sometimes, but through music, the beauty of nature, the wonderful people in my life, and the occasional treasure of a glimpse into the eternal, unfathomable essence of God, for lack of a better term, I manage to live a good life.
I could go on, but I should save some for another day.
Enough about me. Sounds like you are really doing some great things, and building a wonderful foundation for your music. I look forward to listening to more of your music. There is a really unique, special, and beautiful spirit in your work. I look forward to listening to the rest of your posts, and other music you create. I wish you all the best in all you do, and hope you will keep in touch. I am moved by your persistence, and courage to overcome difficulty in your life.
I better close for now, but please do keep in touch, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
Take care,

Tommy, Lillypad people is a very nice composition. I would love to hear what it sounds like with updated sounds, or best of all, with live instrumentation. I can hear it in my head that way, and it is quite good. The piece lends itself well to soundtracks with wide open spaces. I see a lot of nature in it. Would make good documentary music for wildlife film. The current sounds are a bit harsh, but the composition is quite nice, and the harmonic and melodic balance works well. Has a nice flying feeling. Rebuild the instrumentation, and I feel this piece will be very fine. All the best, John R
