Darling, I dunno what you're doin right now... but I dig the shit out of what you already done did. I liked every note that I heard and every lyric tied to it. There's definitely some Tom Waits banging around inside your soul... and I love the shit outta Tom Waits. I saw him in Tulsa ten years back when he was on tour for Mule Variations, and there's not enough time for me to tell just how mind blowing he was on that particular evening or what effect that's had on me. So know this, that there is a compliment that you had to earn. I don't just give those shits out.

Well bless you and the horse you rode in on, Craw! I'm making my 8th album at the moment. Just went across to Italy to record in a 15th century church in the mountains. Yes, Mr Waits has been in my soul since the 1980s and I was also lucky enough to see him on the Glitter and Doom tour. You might have spotted his guitarist Marc Ribot playing on my album too...you cannot believe what an incredible thing it is to sit in a studio with a whole bunch of Marc Ribot takes. The entire room were buzzing like kids at christmas. I've also got a huge love of Americans. I kind of fell in love with Texas without ever going there when I met some beautiful Texans in a hotel in Kansas City last spring but to be honest most Americans charm the hell out of me. I look forward to taking a browse through your back catalogue, sir. Many thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated. It's grey here in Manchester. It's pretty much always grey in Manchester. x

Well Kristy McGee, this is quite a interesting tune your "Gunsore".....it really grows on you!! I had to check the lyrics out, in places....it's hard to understand your wonderful lyrics!! Love the melody against the rather tough subject matter of the tune!! Gave you 5 Stars and Likes!! You recently reviewed one of our tunes. If you get a chance, we'd love you to stop on by our Broad Jam site, sit a spell and have a listen to some of our newer compositions!! Love for you to give our song, "Here Comes The Rain Again" a listen!!
Toodles,
Art & Margie Corey

Thanks for both a Friend request (accepted!) and a nice review of "Troubles I've Been". Very appreciated!!

Hey Kirsty, you've got me pegged. Yep I'm the Lima Bean Lady and my husband is the Video Nut I wrote about. He hates that song, by the way. Or strongly dislikes? Will try to listen to Truckstop Honeymoon soon, my friend! Mrs. Kate

Ha, lovely! Glad it was you. I like what you do. You have a particular style and it's just lovely. You remind me of a friend who lives out in Yucca Mesa near Joshua Tree. I'm telling you I'd hang out with you both anytime. I don't know why your husband dislikes the song. My boyfriend didn't like the song I wrote for him so I rewrote it casting him in a more positive role and now he loves it! Men. x

Oh he only dislikes it in a funny way because it's about him. Anyway, truth be told, he is an amazing family videographer/historian. The sad thing is that he has no interest in making music videos for me. He could save me a lot of money! But it's okay. He is a great guy and we have been married nearly 45 years!

Hi Kirsty,

Thanks you so much for the fine, fine, fine review of my song, "Kites In The Country"! A "hippy song", indeed! This song comes from my second album, "Waving Prairie", which was recorded in 1972 at Wally Heider's Studio in San Francisco.

This song has a couple fun points I wanted to share with you. First of all, the song was recorded "live" in the studio where I was blessed to have the amazing Zakir Hussain on the drums. It was all one-take.....and really a "jam" session. Zakir had played on a couple other songs from that album and I had "Kites In The County".... waiting to record, so we decided to record it. What is amazing is that he had NEVER heard the song and we NEVER practiced it....we just sat down and played it and the tap machine just kept going. Fun, eh?

I have unique perspective on songwriting having been blessed to write and record in the 1960's and 70's where we were free to "experiment" with long songs and there was not all the stress we face today to make the song "hooky" and under 4:00 minutes. I write songs that fit that format, but I also like to write longer songs, too....as long as they can hold the mood and images together and keep the listeners attention. Glad you enjoyed the whole song and hung in there.

Anyway, I really appreciate your perspectives and feedback....they are most valuable to me.

My Best,

Chet Nichols

You're most welcome! I have to say I miss the States badly. UK artists aren't permitted to tour there without £3k visas but that hasn't stopped me from falling in love with SoCal. Not yet visited San Francisco though. In 1972 I was busy being born : ) but have spent the past 18 years releasing 8 albums. What do you think of this platform as a means of getting licensing opportunities. Have you had much success here? I'm just considering whether the money I spent on primo could have been better spent on food...such is the life of the musician! x

So Cal, eh? It is totally enticing and enchanting.... well, maybe. Fun place to visit.... I just released a new album about Hollywood entitled, "Hollywood Altars". Our plans are to use the songs as the thread to produce a rock opera. You can hear the Hi-Res WAV file versions at my site..... http://www.chetnichols.net. 1 Give the collection a listen with some good over-the-ear earphones and tell me what you think. It is also available at Broadjam as MP3-320 files....

Thank you again for the interesting review of Humble Pie, a short orchestral work. I agree with all. On the piccolo, I know it sounds strange but it felt right in that spot.

Hello Kirsty and welcome to Broadjam! Thanks for the review of my vintage song, Lima Beans. You are right about the recording. To get the "black gospel" background vocals I recruited a team of choristers from the local inner city high school. They were a lot of fun. Once this song was used at a Lima Bean Festival in NJ...I felt so honored. Your friend in FL, Mrs. Kate

That's lovely Kate! I did love the choir! I had no idea how daunting the reviews thing was. It's horrible! I actually was so relieved when I heard your song. Reminded me a bit of Kristina Olsen. It was nice to hear you enjoying yourself and this really comes across in the vocal! Greetings from Manchester UK...not sure what I think of Broadjam yet...we'll see...kx

I've been a member for years...I consider it my "musical country club" because I live in a small town and do not get to jam with songwriters very much. I like reviewing and I like getting reviews. There have been some stinky ones here and there, but for the most part, they've been good. I enjoy meeting songwriters online from all over the world. It's a great community and you'll get out of it pretty much what you put into it. Definitely will expand your fan base. But don't count on it for income. (At least I don't). I have sold some downloads but not enough to pay for my subscription. PS I do not know who Kristina Olsen is!

Hi Kirsty, thank you for the review of Go to hell. This song is actually from 1988. The rapper is the dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah and The singer is Gabriella Rinaldi, my wife and co-writer. I did the arranging and several musicians collaborated to the song. It was part of the soundtrack of a movie "the church". I still love the sound!
