The best to you & your music.

Thank you so much Donald regarding our track Defining cue 2. We're looking to replace the trumpet tracks to make it even better. I really appreciate a jazz musician's feedback, since this genre is not a strong one of mine (I'm gospel :)

I could not form a constructive opinion about RAP or Country music because I love Jazz. So is it fair to suggest my review would not be in the best interest of a RAP or Country artist? If I don't care for the genre I avoid reviewing those song titles. Food for thought!

Thank you for your appreciation of our brand of music.

Donald. Thank you very much for your generous review of 'Sunburst'. You mentioned the horns on the song. You might be surprised and a little disappointed to learn that they were samples. (Recording on a budget, you see). Once again many thanks. Kind regards. David

Hi Donald,

Hey, thanks for the nice review of the instrumental version of my song, "I Come From Chicago". I'd like to suggest that you stop by my BJ site and listen to the version with lyrics. I wrote it back in the mid-60's and it was quite a hit back then....and people are enjoying this new version that comes from one of my newest , classic-rock-blues CD, "Band In The Basement".

Glad you enjoyed the guitar work!

Best,

Chet Nichols

Thank you for your review of our material. I didn't know era sensitivity was an issue...just content. I promise to do better next time. Thanks again.

You're welcome...era sensitivity is not really an issue...except when it is a criteria for certain opportunities..and I guess what I was trying to say is if a opportunity or listing asked for a seventies or eighties soul song, or a jazz/r&b feel (or classic R&B), then I would submit the song as is...but if the listing specified R&B Soul...I would assume that they meant current R&B Soul and I wouldn't submit it as is. In reading your profile I realized that we are in different geographical markets and that what is considered "Current R&B Soul" in Chicago may be very different my market, which is Los Angeles...so you could cater your music to what you notice the listings are requesting the most or you could just do you and make the music you want to make and just submit them to listings that you think are a match. (I do both, but I don't really like the pay to submit ...so I do more submissions though reverbnation and I don't have much of my catalogue on this site) .

This badly wants a B3 (oh wait there it is!!). The chirps and squeaks don't substitute for a good real (or sampled) drum track. Add some tambourine and a real e-bass playing something slinky. This review reminds me of a guy we USED TO work with who played Bass and wanted everything to sound his way... Bass intros and the whole nine yards. Acoustic Upright Bass works for us and those chirps and squeaks were percussion instruments (no tambourine). I also detected a bit of sarcasm in reference to the Hammond B3 works. Have a nice Bass Day!

Hi Donald and welcome to Broadjam. I see that you're a relatively new member. I've been tempted to respond negatively to reviews many times but never have. I remind myself (1) I ain't no big deal or I wouldn't be here, and I'm hear to learn something (2) the person may have been very sincere and more focused on the positive comments and (3) I *asked* for their opinion so I can just ignore it if I don't find it useful.

When the score is 26/30 you can be assured that the reviewer thought the piece was very good, which, to dispel any doubts, I did. And when the reviewer remarks that he hears "hints of Jimmy Smith" you can also be reasonable assured that he is rather partial to B3 organ. I guess I could have mentioned Jimmy McGriff and Jack McDuff too. Let me know if you have any other reviewers soon with that sort of familiarity with jazz organ. I stand by the comments on percussion and need for a stronger bass, whether "a" or "e" bass, that being my opinion on the arrangement/production, which you asked for when submitting the tune for review. Sorry about your bass player; I imagine he has a few "out of school" tales about that gig too.

All the best with your music!

Jeff

Man there is nothing BUT opinion when it comes to aesthetics, other than saying something like "It's a Bb blues with a couple of tritone substitutions." Now if Chick Corea gives his opinion I think it would mean more than mine but maybe not as much as Ahmad Jamal's...but that's just my opinion about opinions.

Have fun with your music --everything else is just everything else!!
