Boston based musician/singer/songwriter.
Currently play bass and sing in Sun Jones.
My name is Jason Sullivan. I am a rapidly aging musician/singer/songwriter from (South of) Boston MA. I have "written" more than 6,301 songs in my lifetime but unfortunately was only able to properly capture about 50 or so...
I began playing the tennis racket at age 10. Industriously, I would "strum" away to my oldest brother's Rush, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Sly and the Family Stone and Who records (yes folks, we're talking vinyl here). At 13 I traded my Prince Wide-Grip in for an Aria Pro II electric guitar, promptly painted it to look like Eddie Van Halen's "Frankenstrat" and began a life-long relationship that I continue to nurture to this day. Along the way, I have become quite acquainted (and possibly proficient in a few cases) with several other instruments which I use as tools to communicate my musical inspirations. The aforementioned guitar currently resides in the "where are they now" files of things I've owned in my lifetime, but has since been replaced with a real Strat (among a few others).
I made the switch "professionally" from the guitar to bass after realizing that bass players in my area were hard to come by, and good ones were practically fought over! I eventually formed a pro funk cover band and played alongside drummer, Keith Harris (Black Eyed Peas) for 4 years playing in Boston's biggest and best clubs. During this time, our band would feature many talented musicians (as substitutes) such as Adam Deitch (John Scofield/Average White Band), Adam Smirnoff (Robert Randolph band), Sam Kinninger (Soulive/Lettuce) and Charles Haynes (Lady Gaga & Kanye West) among others.
For the past 2+ years, I have been the bass player and songwriter/vocalist in the Boston-based band Sun Jones. Sun Jones features 3 singer/songwriters and plays all original roots rock music. Members of Sun Jones have shared the stage with artists like Dr. John, Maceo Parker, Robert Cray, Ivan Neville, Derek Trucks, Booker T and the MG's, Rusted Root and others. Sun Jones features the screaming saxophone of John Vanderpool, who toured with Extreme and regularly plays with Danny Klein's (J Geils band) Full House band. Sun Jones is enjoying regular radio play on Boston stations WMBR MIT Cambridge, WXRV The River Boston and WCIB Cool 102 on Cape Cod.
