In the spring of 2007, singer/songwriter Jim Ivins decided to make an acoustic EP to show his friends some newer types of songs he had been writing. As the start of recording in the summer approached, he began to hear full band arrangements of his songs in his head and as such, inspired by artists such as The Rocket Summer, decided to record the whole album himself. One side would be the rock versions, and the other would be the original acoustic versions, showing where the songs originated and also where they could go. Though he hadn't formed his band yet, the seeds of The Jim Ivins Band were planted, with drummer Jack Ivins and guitarist Drew Martin appearing on the album's single, "Run". Effectively blending the solo acoustic work of Dashboard Confessional with the rock of 90's fare such as Third Eye Blind and Goo Goo Dolls, "99¢ Dreams" is the perfect introduction to Ivins' catalog, pulling each listener in with the wonder of what is to come next.
