The songs are heavily influenced by contemporary Blues and Jazz song structures. They were chosen to complement each other and provide a cohesive start-to-finish sequence for the listener. Nonetheless, each song stands firmly on its own and tells its individual story in melody, lyric, and instrumentation. We put these pieces together with the aim of giving each song its own identity and character; to allow each to present clearly its lyric, melody, and supporting arrangements; and to share the vocal soundscape with a lyrical, bluesy, jazz-spirited horn to serve as both up-front support and counterpoint to the vocals.
