Bio
Fusing elements of pop/rock, jazz and folk, Adlai Waxman's music combines clever songwriting with melodic piano compositions, and a distinct yet familiar vocal style that pushes the boundaries of traditional piano pop-music. As a new generation talent, he brings forward a sound that emanates with the influence of songwriters Randy Newman, Joe Jackson, Robbie Robertson and Donald Fagan. Mixing old and new sounds and blending the textures of both acoustic and electric instruments such as the accordion, violin, upright bass, acoustic guitar, piano, and electric keyboards, result in well crafted, catchy pop songs with Adlai's own original modern twist on this time tested genre.
Adlai began his musical journey in Toronto Ontario, where he grew up and was fist introduced to music. Studying piano, organ, accordion, and singing, Adlai began writing songs and playing in bands along with using his multi- instrument talents as a session player. In 2004 Adlai independently put together the EP "Pomona Valley" and followed up in 2005 with "Flight 73" that scored him three number one hits on The CBC New Music Canada Charts. Both discs were a great introduction to Adlai's unique songwriting and sound.
Adlai's musical adventures have taken him across Canada and the United States performing to enthusiastic crowds. His touring highlights include: the North By North East music festival in Toronto; the Vancouver Jazz festival; SUNY University of Plattsburgh, New York; Kibbutz Magam in Tiberius, Israel; Oz's music space in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Ido Sushi in New York, New York and Cumberland County College in Vineland, New Jersey. In 2004 legendary producer Jerry Wexler(Ray Charles and Bob Dylan) personally called Adlai after hearing his EP POMONA VALLEY to give him career guidance. Adlai will always recall this exciting connection as a very special moment and a career highlight.
In January of 2008, Adlai caught the eye of Toronto indie label Marshmellow Records, who signed him, and are currently in the process of recording and releasing a brand new album. The disc should be released in early spring via Marshmellow Records. Adlai is now currently splitting his time between Toronto and Nashville- he has been working with Noteborn Music publishing writing songs for TV documentaries, movies and artists in Nashville. Once the album is complete, Adlai will be on the road promoting and performing the new material in both Toronto and Nashville.
