DJ 20/20 - HIS DESTINY
Born in Tallahassee, Florida in 1970. Raised in the South Bronx, New York since 1973; Lamar Gardner P. K. A. DJ 20-20 has endured many trials and tribulations to find his way into the game of music, from DJ work in the clubs, to house parties, Jr high and high school talent shows, to DJ-ing in the streets in the 1980s. Working on his craft since the age of thirteen, 20 earned the title of one of the best RB/Hip-hop producers in the South Bronx area. In1992 a childhood friend Ulysses P.K.A. Mysterme and 20 had trooped to the West Coast, San Francisco to record demos with producer Joe Quixx and King Tech (KMEL - big-time radio DJ's in California). 20's track was then released on All City Records in California.
In 1993, with a real recording under his belt, in 20 came back and searched out a New York recording deal. He obtained a manager (Kevin Glenn-Uptown of Bounce Entertainment) and in due time snagged a deal with Geestreet/Island Records. Deal on the table, it was time to make it happen. 20 released a track called "Unsolved Mysterme" with his partner in 1994; it was an automatic underground hit, even though it was previously recorded by All City Records in California. The Island Record label went all out on the single (video, radio, college radio, video talk shows, stickers and posters, pictures, videos of stage shows, record pools, clubs tape masters and independent retailers, etc.) and sent 20 out on a 10-state, all expenses paid promotional tour. After the tour, the groups album "Let Me Explain" was released by Island Records. The group achieved many magazine write-ups: Billboard (May 28, 1994), The Source (June 8, 1994), Spice (June 17, 1994), Era-Rap Bitz (1994), Street Sound (November 1994) and One Knut Mag (January 14, 1995), Word Up! ( Summer 1995), The Rap Pages ( Sum / Fall 1995), etc. But in the fall of 1996 the group's record deal was terminated from the label even though they were selling over 65,000 copies and had developed a nice fan base; the president of the label cited irreconcilable differences between the group and the label and they were terminated. After the split, Mysterme went on to get signed by Fever Records P.K.A. Puzzleman. 20 went on to produce the BluntHeadz on Flattop Records and Ice Kreem Man on Ichiban Records in Atlanta in 1996. The albums didn't really go anywhere due to limited promotional budget, but one individual stood out in the group, "The Specialist". 20 took "The Specialist" and got signed by Big East Records in 1997 (Life itself). 20 Then went to school (Monroe College) and took Business Management courses. He received numerous awards during his schooling (College Scholarship, Deans List and a 3.5 GPA in his first two semesters). After school he went on to intern at Big East Recording's Studio (B.A.C).
Today, 20 works at Comatose / Universal Recordings (he's C.E.O) and has produced many instrumental tracks along with a few compilations, recieving light radio work (91.9, 90.3, Hot 97, 103 jamz and 105): The 20 Sack Experience Volume I and The 20 Sack Experience Volume II (Compilations-various artists). Now starting his new website@ Myspace.com/20lg20 for those Artists who need music, email contacts or any other information an artist may need when dealing with him musically. He also attends "The Institue of Audio Research" in the daytime, and works at "In Da Streetz Studio at Night" 2007 - 2008, and as of September 1, 2007, just finished his first radio interview in 3 years at Rockland World Radio.com.
