Torben Tietz - Artist Biography

Born in 1989, I grew up in a small city near to Augsburg, Germany. For the first 15 years of my life, music didn't play a big role except for what was coming from the kitchen radio. Things changed rapidly when I got injured and was not able to do sports - "my" thing during this time - for a long time. So I borrowed a guitar from a neighbour, took some lessons and started listening to what should become my musical influences. Spending hours and hours trying to learn the intro to "Under the bridge" in front of the TV, I got more and more addicted to my guitar.

First thing that really blew my mind was "Reptile" by The Strokes. I've been listening to these two guitars playing this great stuff certainly for more than a billion times.
At the age of 17 I got into my first band, stayed there for 3 years and after finishing school I got to a point where music had become a very important part of my life. So I decided to go to school once more and spend one year in Augsburg doing a diploma course in electric guitar in in order to improve my skills. After finishing the diploma with 1.42 (which does not say anything, but sometimes numbers can be impressive) I decided to study physics in Erlangen for reasons that I forgot during the past 3 years.
During the firs two years I played guitar in a musical and started to sing in another band.

In August 2011 brought me to the place where I finally convinced myself to pull away from physics and search a career in what they call the music business: Portugal. I started to sing and play alone in the streets of Porto, in front of the bars in Coimbra and in the bars of Lisbon. It's not that I haven't been writing songs before, but staying in Portugal made me begin to write more stuff than ever before. After 6 exciting months under the portuguese sun I came back to Germany, finished my course and physics and in Oct. 2012 I moved to the city I thought would give me the best chances to improve my musical skills: London.

Now I am in the heart of the UK and the heart of the music business and I am trying my luck as a singer/songwriter. Stay tuned for more to come! TT
